I have a feeling this song is about the overall process of Fantasies. The verses speak about not being able to see the brightside, or the big picture ("Saw the water, not the waves," and "Always leaving either way") Whereas the build up leads to being able to finally see positive things ("I'll go where I don't belong") If you're familiar with Metric's previous works, this will make sense because before Fantasies, they had never written a happy song EVER :P And the chorus is more happy stuff ("All not one, I love everything")
I really get where she's coming from. It has a lot to do with commitment issues. She always wants to have something new in her life, every experience etc. It happens partially because she's afraid of seeing what will happen if she stays on one place. Her heart seems to be locked on the inside so this passion for "new" is a way of distracting herself. She knows that for building up the future she should move to the past. So she's hoping someone will actually stop her, hold a warm place for her. Like a safe place to settle down. She's worried about these issues and can't sleep. She wants everything, like she doesn't really want to give up her freedom or touring. "When I'm gone, I know what I've done" - can be understood in two ways. Like she could only reap the benefit if she would stay (old friends, relationships etc). Or in another meaning she will only discover what she has lost after she left...
Oh I've read the lyrics again and it's kind of controversial. She's enjoying the lifestyle, but just saying that maybe someday she'll find her way back and settle down. So maybe that "You" in the song is just an abstract person, doesn't have to be a guy she knows.

"I couldn't stay, I don't know why A sailor married to the sea" these 2 lines give me goosebumps every time 0.O "It's all, not one I love everything" <3 METRIC = LOVE
I don't know why this song was a B-side, it's as good or better then any album launching single I've heard in a long time, and one of the best tracks on 'Fantasies Ltd Edition' Although any of the tracks on Fantasies would make a great single.
I haven't loved a song this much since I heard Emily play piano acoustic version of Help I'm alive. I think the first verse is referring to how people perceive her. They see her for a moment at a show and even though you may have gotten your money's worth with front row tickets, catching her eye for a split second, at the end of the show she's gone but at the same time I think she wants to stay in one place for a little longer than she gets to.
The 2nd verse and the pre-chorus confuse me, but I love it! Episodes to fantasize TV movie of our lives The future is all mine I'll find it on my way back
It makes me think that she hasn't gotten exactly what she wants yet in the first line or it's maybe a referrance to how people rely on television too often like how we fantasize about what we watch on tv with jelousy and envy
to me this song seems to refer to the struggle of knowing what you want. the first verse it seems as tho she is discussing how she always wants to leave but at the same time she wants to be stopped..and then goes on to say that when she is gone she'll know what she's done, meaning taking the risk of what you want might leave you feeling regret afterwards. "The door is locked from the inside, Don't wait around, I won't arrive" Her mind is made up and she's not going back (locked from the inside)
maybe I'm completely wrong but those are my thoughts!
I agree with get2close2theflame that the song is about Emily's experience at shows on the road. In the refrain "It's all, not one" could refer to her solo efforts and how she's feeling more upbeat about being part of a group again. "No sleep; I lose everything" on the road including losing your bearings and sense of being. "Oh don't tell me again, I won't see you again." could refer to what guys in the crowd always yell... "I love you Emily!!", etc.
