Parallel Lines Lyrics

If you found the words, would you really say them?
Or silent through the verse
Will mumble punctuation
Remembering the line, an empty metaphor
That you savored by yourself
You're never cured
If I forgot the lines, is it easy enough to fake it?
Or do you need a moment to rememorize
And model it like a curse half disguised?

Leers, cheers, whispers and the tears
That final taste before you're taken away
Odds, ends, final amends
It's all right to say it
Just as long as you don't really think so

Give me a little room
To get on with concentration
Just enough to know
What I'm missing in education
Borrowing all the hours that you gave to me
It's a wonder I could ever breathe
Under all your thoughts
You'll hear the final answer
Of all the things you were that have been paralleled
All the voices that were raised and finally fell

Leers, cheers, whispers and tears
That final taste before you're taken away
Odds, ends, final amends
It's all right to say it
Just as long as you don't really think so

No lights
No show
No sets
That's all you get
No waits
No calls
No written tests for what you know

Leers, cheers, whispers and tears
That final taste before you're taken away
Odds, ends, final amends
It's all right to say it
Just as long as you don't really think so

Or stutter through the verse, with mumbled punctuation.

No Lights, No Show, No Sex, That's all you get.

I think it's someone who's not getting all of what they should be getting from their significant other. Not really getting to know the person as a whole, not knowing how they really truly feel...

Lyric Correction

"We'll hear the final answer" => "We'll hear the final whisper" Maybe it's "no sets" and not "no sex" :/

when he's singing it live, he adds "you've got more lines to say" to the end

(preeeeetty sure it's "no sets" not "no sex")

Memory

@dgcm You're right, that makes way more sense

Song Meaning

This song is brilliant.

It's tragic, really. I perceive this as someone who has a creative mind, but is unable to utilize it due to social / exogenous factors, less doing so would render them guilty of something or completely destroy there ability to function in society. For example, they may be working or doing something to make a living that they are "stuck" doing, and everything they represent to public view or outward perspective is NOTHING that they feel with moral or ethical value. It diminishes themselves and is the antithesis of their own creativity.

The sad part is that I perceive this very similar to social thought in the US right now - judgment prior to attention and perception to form one's own thought. The singer knows that everything they say will be interpreted literally and without thought, diminishing their individuality and sense of purpose. To make positive change and contribution to self and society belonging.

"Leers, Cheer, and whispers and tears. The final taste before you are taken away"

Express all emotion you can, and relate it to all, before societal pressure or you either eliminates your care in what you love, or will kill you. You have one chance to stand up and make this decision - face the difficulty and punishment (even though moral and right), or die trying.

There's a lot of issues with these lyrics. Mostly they're good.

I think it's "With a lot more punctuation" instead of "Will mumble punctuation". But to be fair this line is really hard to hear.

Also, this is just guessing, but "Or silent through the verse" sounds to me like "Or sliding through the verse". Because "punctuation" in that line connotes that the person speaking is actually saying something.

"You're never cured" instead of "Your never cure" because the latter makes no sense and there's an audible syllable at the end of cure.

"Leers, cheers, whispers and the tears" instead of "Leers, cheers, whispers and tears". There's clearly a "the" before tears.

"That final taste before you're taken away" instead of "The final taste...". Same with this, it's clearly "That" instead of "The".

Anyway, just my thoughts.

The first paragraph is totally wrong. It goes:

If you found the words, would you really say them? Or STUTTER through the verse WITH mumble punctuation Remembering A line, an empty metaphor That you savored by yourself You're AN EPICURE If I forgot the lines, is it easy enough to fake it? Or do you need a moment to rememorize And model it like a curse half disguised?

hahaha. That's what he's saying, I will place money on it! An epicure makes sense, since he's using the word "savor"

My Interpretation

Ugh from my post I needed to add one positive string - that standing Up and voicing your creativity ultimately progresses society and helps with ingenuity and new perspective, that may be something needed right at the time you do it! Don’t let society dictate your inner natural as so in your moral and ethical intentions are just!
