Spellbound

I don't know now... The whole thing seems too generic for it to be a fault. I've heard the overlying theme of the album is superficiality, and I think all these cliches we're seeing aren't the band trying to be the next big thing, but trying to show how fickle such a position is. The idea is somewhat supported by the cover. Opposite to "Evanescence" whose theme is "slowly fading away"; a glass grenade brings to mind a sudden, concussive crash from existence. I may be grasping, but maybe this song is SUPPOSED to be as simple and blunt as it sounds.

After watching the Spellbound video I think this song is about addictions...(before watching it I thought it's about a relation-ship compared to an addiction, or a spell) like eating disorders or excessive exercising (watch the video). I like this song a lot! I think I read somewhere that the new album will be mainly about things like that... the society,our human being and things like that. I'm very excited for the new album and I hope the other songs are as cool as this one :)

I feel like maybe this song is about how our mind wants us to act one way, but our emotional side wants to act another way. Maybe it's just me, but I've found myself stopping and wondering who the hell am I? Sometimes I'm afraid that my mind is trying to streamline me into a look or stereotype. Like, because I like metal, I must wear concert shirts and black pants all the time or something silly like that. Otherwise, I won't live up to metalhead status.

That girl who obsess over her image in the music video, she could be thinking I don't look good, I don't like my image. Though without that mirror she might actually be quite satisfied with herself. When she breaks that mirror, we see that she's suddenly happy. It's like she's freed herself from her own oppression. I didn't really understand the other characters. Except the Superman guy who had been working out throughout the video. Where ever did the eating man go too?

But basically, yeah, society/culture affect how our minds pick and choose who we want to be. But to decide to be one thing over another is impossible if we want to be happy. Besides being spellbound by societal pressures, we are also spellbound by ourselves and our own expectations. So, we need to forget any category, label, stereotype that we know, our expectations for ourselves, and just do whatever we want.

I could see this also from a religious perspective (spells, candles, being haunted, drapes, whispering, etc), but I'll leave that for someone else.

i like this song very much! it does sound mainstream, but so do many other songs of lacuna coil(our truth, closer, swamped). that doesn't mean they aren't dark any more! i believe the new album will be real good, it's the first one with a theme (superficial life - shallow life)!

i think this song is pretty bad ass.

Well, I haven't actually seen the music video, but it looks to me like the narrator has a problem and he/she feels trapped so he/she seeks therpay through drugs and of course got addicted. it seems that no matter where or when it may be it wants more. It also appears that the narrator might be going a little mad and feels like death is almost aproaching.

I think the song is basically about addictions or things that your obsessed with.

Firstly, you see the girl in front of the mirror numerous times, to me the video implies that she is unhappy with her body (or looks) and has an obsession to look good.

Then theres the overweight guy (ha :D), he is evidently obsessed with food, as you see him eating a burger numerous times through the video. He has a food addiction (most likely)

Then there's the young guy who you see a couple of times obviously obsessed with keeping fit.

Then the older man who seems to be into politics. I think he is obsessed with power, he is power hungry.

BUT It's like they're addressing the obsession/addiction as if it is an actualy being, then at the end you see that they seemed to have beaten it. With the politics guy jumping in the air and all the glittery bits come down. The girls smashing the mirror and the keep fit guy standing with a super hero costume (rather strange) but it sort of implies that he is hero because he overcame the addiction. Maybe ;D

that's just my thoughts though, feel free to prove me wrong ^.^

If anyone cares, I think this song is trying to portray the fear of being judged by others.

"Burning here, in my room/Feeling that the walls are moving closer": "I'm so petrified by the thought of people thinking badly of me that I'd rather just stay inside: if they can't see me, they can't hate me."

"Tell me who you are" seems like a breaking-point outburst of frustration, like screaming to no-one in particular, "why do I care what any of you think about me anyway? What gives you the right?"

"Everywhere I go/I am spellbound"; "I can't get rid of these feelings. I know they're unreasonable, but that doesn't change the fact that the feelings are there."

This is the interesting part. "You cannot have this control of me/I will break the spell you put on me" is the grand defiance; "Hell with all of you; I won't let you bring me down."

That's my interpretation, anyway.

This song is obviously about addictions (so yes I agree with you chelsea)

For example Burning here, in the room Feeling that the walls are moving closer

could represent withdrawl. When you are in withdrawl, you do feel like you are burning, and that you are being crushed.

Spell bound, is obviously a way to say that you are in awe of it, that it is practically controling you. so in the chorus

Tell me who you are. I am spellbound You cannot have this control on me Everywhere I go I am spellbound I will break the spell you put on me

Could be a cry to what ever they are addicted too. Saying that such addictions are controling them, and that find that it is a horrible habit and need it to stop, so they are fighting to break the 'spell' casted over them.

Also Silent whispers of words inside of my head The night that comes, it waits for me Lift me to the ending of another day I'm haunted

This can represent how something 'speaks to you'. Like a gambler will be 'called' by the slot machines, or a druggy will be 'called' by the heroine.

And the ending of another day part, speaks about when the act done. They fulfill the need to do whatever it is they are addicted to do at night, and that this need is haunting them, and so on and so forth

SERIOUSLY?! TELL ME WHO YOU ARE LACUNA COIL?! u r spellbound under mainstream music's control. I dont know how a band goes from Comalies to this radioplay garbage. I pray that the rest of the album isnt like this (Christina promised an 'Arabic' influence on this album... I certainly dont hear it on this track)
