Frozen Creek Lyrics
Up on the pebble driveway
There sits a house
It's the loneliest place
I haven't spent much time there
I wasn't allowed
It just didn't feel right
I open both of my eyes
Still see an empty place, so empty
But if I keep them closed
And there's still a chance, that something is out there
But it's all built upon a burial ground
It just doesn't feel right
It just doesn't feel right
I made a promise to you long ago
That I'd do anything to keep this home
On top the frozen creek
I would love to take you there
Swear it froze through me
On top the frozen creek, oh
Up on the pebble driveway
There sits a house
But its the loneliest place
I haven't spent much time there
I wasn't allowed
It just didn't seem right
If I open both of my eyes
Still see an empty place, so empty
But if I keep them closed
Then there's still the chance
That someone is out there
But it's all built upon a burial ground
It just doesn't feel right
It just doesn't seem right
I made a promise to you long ago
That I'd do anything to save this home
On top the frozen creek
I would love to take you there
Swear it froze through me
On top the frozen creek
I would love to take you there
I would love to take you there
I would love to take you there
There sits a house
It's the loneliest place
I wasn't allowed
It just didn't feel right
Still see an empty place, so empty
And there's still a chance, that something is out there
It just doesn't feel right
It just doesn't feel right
That I'd do anything to keep this home
I would love to take you there

I think its about a relationship.
The house being their relationship which is fitting because a house is built up and worked on as is a relationship.
His heart is the frozen creek. The reason the house is on a frozen creek is because he still cares about her or the house/relationship and won't let go.
Its built on a burial ground implies either an ended relatonship or bad past.
He promised he would do anything to save the home. Their love or relationship.
He's closing his eyes to her treating him bad or to what she's done, hoping it'll get turned around for the better for them.
He'd love to take her there is where it gets ironic because she has already been a part of it just not as much so as he.

I agree with this, sort of. Here is my deciphering of the song:

A guy fell in love but he never started a relationship with a girl. The thing that never felt right was probably his emotions sending him mixed signals. The house being built on a burial ground was the relationship never built. The frozen creek is the love he had for her that will never die. He says "I would love to take you there" so he can show her the way he felt and see if she feels the same. The reason "it wasn't allowed" was probaley because it was a forbidden...

I could be completely wrong, but the song means a lot to me if i think of it this way.
@MIripper99 I thought it was about our native ancestors 😭😭😭

These are the correct lyrics. I scrutinized them heavily and am positive I've got them 100%. Such a beautiful song.
Upon a pebble driveway There sits a house And It's the loneliest place

'Cause It's all built upon a burial ground Just doesn't feel right Just doesn't feel right
On top the frozen creek I would love to take you there It's where it flows through me On top the frozen creek
Oh
If I open both of my eyes I Still see an empty place, so empty

Oh
I made a promise to you long ago: I'd do the best that I can I'd try to keep it
I made a promise to you long ago: That I'd do anything to keep this home
On top the frozen creek I would love to take you there It's where it flows through me On top the frozen creek
Oh
I would love to take you there I would love to take you there I would love to take you.
this is how I feel about this song.. It has some really strong ties to a previous relationship of mine that was built up over some issues that we each tried to bury.. we grew apart because of it and in the end I was in a place of despair to have her back when i was thinking "with my eyes closed", but when I was thinking with "both eyes open" I could clearly see that there was nothing left
Up on the pebble driveway - implying it's rural (not many people around, possibly a touchy issue) There sits a house - relationship It's the loneliest place - not much activity here, it's sad
I haven't spent much time there I wasn't allowed - I saw an issue but I couldn't go there It just didn't feel right - everytime I tried to go there it felt wrong or too afraid to try cause I didn't feel it was my place to go to
I open both of my eyes - thinking logically Still see an empty place, so empty - empty relationship with no hope
But if I keep them closed - thinking emotionally, thinking back on the past And there's still a chance, that something is out there - hoping and feeling despair for some sort of connection
But it's all built upon a burial ground - the foundation of the relationship is based on old issues (maybe the relationship began while the other was hurt from a previous one, or they began their relationship with too many flaws and tried to ignore/push them aside) It just doesn't feel right - there's always a deep dissatisfaction with unresolved issues
I made a promise to you long ago That I'd do anything to keep this home - promised I'd do anything to keep this relationship
On top the frozen creek - built on ice, implying it could fall through at any time I would love to take you there - desperate to continue this unstable relationship Swear it froze through me - I became so much a part of it that I lost myself, or that I may fall through at any moment into a state of helplessness On top the frozen creek, oh - re-inforcing the unstable grounds
But if I keep them closed - thinking irrationally, thinking back Then there's still the chance That someone is out there - "someone" implying he doesn't know the person, maybe he once did or was just never able to make that connection
I made a promise to you long ago That I'd do anything to save this home - made promises to fix the relationship, "save" implies there have been issues since early on
I would love to take you there - still wants to continue the relationship.. "love" implies it based on emotion, thus it's when he is "keeping his eyes closed"
anyways, this is just what this song means to me.. art is meant to be interpereted personally so this is my take.. hope everyone else feels as much a connnection to this art as I do. The song "I felt free" comes along a little while after this for me :)
I agree with most of your points.

I tend to think the relationship has been built on lies hence "built upon a burial ground."

I also tend to believe the "Frozen Creek" is actually a memory stuck in time. Time flows like a creek, unless it is frozen. It is perhaps a memory of this relationship that once was, and now it is not. Many times in literature, snow, winter, cool, and frozen are all analogous to death or separation. So I like the idea of this "frozen creek" being the memory of a past (unfortunately) failed relationship that is held timeless by this motionless creek.
its pretty obvious that on letting go is almost entirely about god and religion. i think at one point in his life anthony had a relationship with a god and that over the years... like many people... it fell apart when he began questioning things.
i think this song is about anthony moving back in the direction of having a relationship with 'god'
up on the pebble driveway there sits a house, it's the loneliest place (the house is a metaphor for anthony's relationship with god, or current lack of one)
i haven't spent much time there, i wasn't allowed, it just didn't feel right (for awhile he pushed away any belief in god and abandoned faith)
i open both of my eyes and still see an empty place, so empty but if i keep them closed, then there's still a chance that something/one is out there (when he tries to open up to the idea of god again he still feels empty)
but it's all built upon a burial ground, it just doesn't feel right (its hard to open up to something he's closed himself off from for such a long time)
i made a promise to you long ago that i'd do anything to keep this home (when he says 'to you' i think he's talking to himself. he went through a period of trial where he lost faith, but i think deep inside he always had some inner relationship or connection with a higher spirit)
on top the frozen creek, i would love to take you there (the creek is a metaphor for his soul. it being frozen symbolizes his faith, the water, freezing. then i think he is talking to himself again when he says i would love to take you there. i think this is the most important line. he would like to have a relationship with god again)
thats just how i view these lyrics song...
I'll be open on the internet. I definitely cried pretty hard when I saw this on youtube. The way it sounded and the way Anthony sung it I felt really sad after hearing it. It was so beautiful though. I like it so much. It's just having that lost hope and everything. It's so beautiful and natural sounding. I can't wait for the new album. I really can't.

Wait. So this song is NOT about our native ancestors?????…I’ve listening to it like that for years 😭😂
I think these lyrics are right! I hope, I haven't listened to it enough to get a meaning yet. I cannot wait for the new album though, it's gonna be amazing!
And I think where he says he wasn't allowed is because he was afraid or to hurt to think about it.
Or his heart could be on the frozen creek while her heart is on the pebble driveway he isn't allowed there because she wouldn't let him in?

I like this interpretation.
Thats a good interpretation. The best part about metaphoric lyrics is you can interpret them any way you want, as long as it makes sense to you. This song obviously could be interpreted in different ways.
Either way, its an incredible song.
