Good Love Lyrics
In the night time we are found
Misty sorrows swoop unbound
Whisper you mean it; say you'll stay
Hold my heart till brighter days
Now I am searching and
I'll do it alone
This Queen of Hearts dancing
on her throne
But I need sorrow baby,
like sorrow is the drug
So will I ever find that place they call
'Good Love'?
'Good Love'...
Past it last night in a dream
Was that 'Good Love'?
Cause my heart caught fire
Went up in flames
I drove past true love once in a dream
Like a house that caught fire it
burned and flamed
And the magician disappeared as
quickly as he came
And with a sound like white magic
Caught in a black car's blazing trail
The house set fire to my heart
And like an inferno we shone and raged
And I'd swallowed the Sun in your form
And I woke up and you were crying
I woke up and you were saying
'Good Love'...
Past it last night in a dream
Was that 'Good Love'?
Cause my heart caught fire
Went up in flames
Misty sorrows swoop unbound
Whisper you mean it; say you'll stay
Hold my heart till brighter days
I'll do it alone
This Queen of Hearts dancing
on her throne
But I need sorrow baby,
like sorrow is the drug
So will I ever find that place they call
'Good Love'?
Past it last night in a dream
Was that 'Good Love'?
Cause my heart caught fire
Went up in flames
Like a house that caught fire it
burned and flamed
And the magician disappeared as
quickly as he came
And with a sound like white magic
Caught in a black car's blazing trail
The house set fire to my heart
And like an inferno we shone and raged
And I'd swallowed the Sun in your form
And I woke up and you were crying
I woke up and you were saying
Past it last night in a dream
Was that 'Good Love'?
Cause my heart caught fire
Went up in flames

love is a burning thing = ring of fire lyrics (johnny cash). she did a springsteen and cure cover. i'm assuming a lot of her artistic references and covers are of music she grew up listening to. tying her work now in with her youth. just an observation.
listening to this song, i hear the story of a girl who just wants true love. the lyrics are blatantly stating it. it's a girl who wants the love that lasts forever, that keeps you happy, that makes you good. she's holding herself back though, pressing that self-destruct button every time things get good ('but i need sorrow, baby, like sorrow is the drug' [that's what i hear, not "life's sorrow"]) it's a girl that ruins everything good, and she wants it, but she's scared she's never going to find true love. she gets close (i.e. all of the imagery, dreams, etc. mentioned in the song) but she has yet to grab ahold of the real thing.
There's a photograph in an album of the Bat For Lashes Myspace page of a wall or wooden board that states 'Love Is A Burning Thing'. I have a feeling that it links to this song. But anyways, I suppose it's more about a longing for passion and drama- two things that can help us value and strengthen our relationships.
In a dream symbols of this float around- the burning heart, the car (something good as a result of something bad), the house (possibly replacing feelings of comfort with intense passion/desire). As the fire spreads the dreamer and their lover become like these things.
The only thing I'm not sure about is the magician- maybe he represents something like a fling (dissapered as quickly as he came), that he ignited this desire which she seeks from her lover. But I also get the feeling he's a bit like the idea of the Wizard from 'Fur and Gold' or at least connected in a way with themes such as magic, illusion and sex.
yeah thats an awful interpretation.
The spoken second verse is an echo of the Fur & Gold album. A mixture of What's A Girl To Do and The Wizard. Very Fur & Gold-ish.
I just love how she sings "in a dream" in the chorus <3 <3 <3
it should be "Past it last night in a dream (Or is that a town?)" it makes reference to the song right before (Pearl's Dream) when she says "past a sign that says good love town" and after "Cause my heart caught fire" it should say "(went out in flames)" i believe.
ah, this is the most beautiful song i've heard in literally years. I can relate to it so much. I love Natasha Khan
Well, not years. but this whole album is incredibly beautiful
now I am searching and I/ I'll do it alone.
True, but I wouldn't say this song is completely devoid of sex. It has got a lot of words that could be translated into that context, regardless of state of mind. I mean, christ, Fur and Gold had it's fair share of sex, just because this is a more personal doesn't mean Natasha Khan would censor herself.I think there is probably a blur of the barriers of love and lust in this track.
I love her and this song is my favourite of Two suns!!
