Siren Song Lyrics
Can I stay with you a while?
Can I stop off in your bed tonight?
I could make you smile
In the evening I'll warm the bed
And I'll always be happy to kiss you
Promise I'll never get sad
It's driving me evil, evil
I was a heart breaker, I loved you
The same way I do
But I've got so much wickedness and sin
And I'll love you the best way I know how
My blond curls slice through your heart
And the siren come calling
In the night, till the light
Bathe you when you get sore
I'll be good, I think I could be all
You would want and more and more
Glitter your eyes for the town
Tell every last boy that you're my man
Try not to let you down
It's driving me evil, evil
I was a heart breaker, I loved you
The same way I do
But I've got so much wickedness and sin
And I'll love you the best way I know how
My blond curls slice through your heart
And the stars are exploding in the night
No, it won't be long until you break
It won't be long until you break
It won't be long until you break
Cause I'm evil, 'cause I'm evil
I definitely agree with the majority of above about the sense that the "siren" is something calling her away from this seemingly perfect life/relationship. Personally, for me, this song is about somebody who longs to be the perfect girl/boyfriend to another, and aspires to do all of these typical things for them in order to make them happy - "i could make you smile. in the morning i'll make you breakfast in the evening i'll warm the bed. and i'll always be happy to kiss you" All of these things seem to be what she perceives love as, and she longs to be part of it. However, when she talks of her 'alter ego' I feel she is trying to show who she really is, and the previous statements is a fantasy or form of denial ;
"i was a heartbreaker, i loved you the same way i do. i've got so much wickedness and sin. my name is pearl and i'll love you the best way i know how" To me, it is obvious here that she know she can never love somebody as much as others could, as she has come to terms with her own selfish and destructive personality traits. There is a deep sense of regret in this song, I also feel that a sense of loneliness comes across as well as she wants so badly to be good to someone, but knows she never can as the inevitability of the relationship ending because of something she will do always hangs in the back of her mind.
I think Pearl IS the siren. She's singing about the two parts of who she is... she's the sweet loving person that draws her lover in, and then the evil siren that destroys him because she can't help it. To me it's like the scorpion and the frog.

I think the end is more like:
"And the stars are exploding in your eyes It won't be long until you'll be running No, it won't be long until you're running And it won't be long until you're running And it won't be long until you'll be running Cause I'm evil (x2)"
I think she alternates between "you'll be running" and "you're running".
I love this song alot. Ic an play it over and over again, and still get the chills lol The song, to me, is about a girl who meet a guy & they fall in love with eachother. The girl tries so hard to be perfect % care for the guy...which is kind of sad really :( I thnk the girl is insecure with herself or etc. But when the Siren ( metaphor for her bad side aka her true side) comes, her true side shows
Also, the song reminds me of the Greek Sirens that would lure men on ships form their voices. The Sirens were eaufitl, but were sneakily deadily
Okay, I found the correct lyrics for this song.
Instead of "and the stars are exploding lights," shes actually saying "and the stars are exploding in your eyes."
I just came back from the concert and she was pretty crystal clear.
i agree with jae26. the siren interpretation, at least i feel, is more correct. it's a girl who wants to be good, loving, nurturing, caring, but the 'siren song' (as jae26) explained, drives her evil, destructive, and corrupted. i love the way thing song illustrates the dark and light side of a woman longing for love.
the first thing i thought of was pearl from hawthorne's scarlet letter. http://books.google.com/books?id=EF9FBQ9EtjgC&lpg=PP1&hl=de&pg=PA29
Yes! When I heard Pearl I always thought of the Scarlet Letter too.

LOVE this song!!!!!!!! Her voice is just so amazing and powerful! Heard it on the Vamp Di's just sayin! lol!
This is my interpretation:
I think the song speaks of a girl who is very loving and nurturing(as the song describes), but has constant doubts and fears for her relationship. I think the siren stands as a metaphor for these doubts and fears(sirens are known to drive men insane as explained in a previous comment). I believe her greatest fear is that her boyfriend will leave her because she thinks she's not good enough(she's got so much wickedness and sin) for him and she constantly asks confirmation of him by saying things like: "Tell every last boy that you're my man". She tries to soothe herself by saying things like "I think I could be all that you want" and "I'll try not to let you down" (The "I'll try" and the "I think" ofcourse stand for her insecurity). She's very aware of her insecurity, and that might just be her greatest fear. She thinks her insecurity might be the thing that drives him away from her ("And the stars are exploding in your eyes"/"It won't be long until you break" -> The last drop for him).
I interpreted the line, "tell every last boy that you're my man," as a sign of fidelity, not insecurity...

I think this song is about sacrifice. The speaker believes she could give up her dark side and be all her lover wants "and more and more." But that level of sacrifice is destructive. If you give all of yourself up what do you have left? I think this scares the speaker and she realizes there will always be a siren song (her dark side) calling to her. Towards the end of the song we feel her accepting that she can't be what her lover wants. She exclaims "cause I'm evil..."
This is weird, but I thought of Pearl in The Scarlet Letter. She was the child born out of wedlock to Hester Prynne, and she was Hester's alter-ego---capricious, wild, lawless, and wise beyond her years.
I believe she thinks that SHE is the siren song, that despite her efforts to love the right way she will crash whoever she loves against the rocks. She believes herself to be evil, so she know it's inevitable, despite her most honest efforts to love.
I also thought maybe it was a metaphor for depression---in her perfect world, she'll never be sad, she'll always be a supportive and active lover who does not ruin the party or bring anyone down. But she realizes this dream is unrealistic, because she's mentally unstable and can't deliver on her promises. A lot of guilt, regret, and anger at herself (and maybe, I think, at the person who expects it of her).
