love is a burning thing = ring of fire lyrics (johnny cash). she did a springsteen and cure cover. i'm assuming a lot of her artistic references and covers are of music she grew up listening to. tying her work now in with her youth. just an observation.
listening to this song, i hear the story of a girl who just wants true love. the lyrics are blatantly stating it. it's a girl who wants the love that lasts forever, that keeps you happy, that makes you good. she's holding herself back though, pressing that self-destruct button every time things get good ('but i need sorrow, baby, like sorrow is the drug' [that's what i hear, not "life's sorrow"]) it's a girl that ruins everything good, and she wants it, but she's scared she's never going to find true love. she gets close (i.e. all of the imagery, dreams, etc. mentioned in the song) but she has yet to grab ahold of the real thing.
