Dirty on the ground is what I need
I got another one to tell you
And another one to make you believe
Pity in the grass tried to be
The one you needed when I told you
That you wanted something bigger than me
I've got friends in all the right places
I know what they want
And I know they don't want me to stay
I said that I've got friends in all the right places
I know what they want
And I know they don't want me to stay
'Cause you are not alive
When I need you
I need it quickly
In case you never know
I can't play where I'm not supposed to anyway
Dirty on the ground is what I see
I need another reason why
I need another reason, tell me to breathe
The dirtier the sound, the best I breathe
I tried to do it all for you
It didn't do anything for me
'Cause I've got friends in all the right places
I know what they want
And I know they don't want me to stay
I've got friends in all the right places
I know what they want
And I know they don't want me to stay
And you and I will find
That when I need you
I need it quickly
In fact, you'll never know
I've got friends in all the right places
I know what they want
And I know they don't want me to stay
I said that I've got friends in all the right places
I know what they want
And I know they don't want me to stay
He said I've got friends in all the right places
I know what they want
And I know they don't want me to stay
I've got friends in all the right places
I know what they want
And I know they don't want me to stay
I got another one to tell you
And another one to make you believe
Pity in the grass tried to be
The one you needed when I told you
That you wanted something bigger than me

this is just a really strange song to try to interpret. i feel like leaning toward drugs on this one but i kinda feel like it doesn't fit andys person. so i guess really all i can say is i think this is one of the best songs on the album and i'd love to find out from andy what it's about.
This song is definately about the aftermath of a break-up. What I got out of it was this:

First verse: Starts it off with his conclusion. He just wants dirty on the ground, just easy, quick, dirty relationships, describing how he gets them by just lying, boasting, whatever. The second part is how he got there. This girl he went out with had huge expectations that he couldn't fill so he was pity on the ground.

Chorus: His friends are his easy hook-ups. They know what they want and then they part ways. Quick, dirty relationships.

Second verse: He's gone and done this. All he sees is dirt on the ground now. He's in it. He doesn't like it. He reflects again though, saying that he tried to fill her unrealistic expectations of him and it didn't do anything for him. Probably ended up sucking. He also tosses in a line about sweet music. "The dirtier the sound the best I breathe." Totally about metal :)

So yeah, I think it's about a break-up. He decides that instead of being a full-time committed boyfriend he's going to go after simpler things. I get the feeling he doesn't like either way though. He doesn't like being a lap dog but he's not completely into being a disposable man either. I think he does come from a religious point of view as well.

This is what I got out of it and it's why I like it so much. I can really relate to what he's saying. This band is incredible.
