first song meaning attempt here.

He feels like he's put too much time into one person, and everytime he talks about the dirt or the grass, he's using it as a metaphor as a grave for himself or the relationship.

The chorus where he says he's got friends in the right places, could be the singer saying that his friends have his best interest at heart, and they dont want him to keep wasting time on the person he's singing about.

and the parts about when i need you i need it quickly, you'll never know. That could be his way of saying "no matter how much i miss and need you, you wont know"

thats all i got, anyone else?

I got:

Dirty on the ground is what I need I've got another one to tell you and another one to make you believe

Pity on the grass, I tried to be the one you needed when I told you that you wanted something bigger than me

I've got friends in all the right places I know what they want and I know they don't want me to stay

I said that, I've got friends in all the right places I know what they want and I know they don't want me to stay

I agree with you and I had the same thing happen and felt the same way for a long time.
