Not really much to analyze here. Just a good old fashioned love song. But, it's so infectious. I could listen to this song all day long. It's terrific.
I think it's an homage to songs or artists that he admires.

Few corrections to my ears:

And I'm not sure about the first two lines of the last stanza...don't sound quite right to me, but can't make them out
been through a bunch of shit, never realized how beautiful life was until he met this girl. she woke him up.
I love Zoey Deschanels back up vocals. Pretty simple, yet great song.. he was unhappy with his life until he met a certain someone.
