F: Uh! F: Good evening, ladies and gentlemen M: Across space… F: Step right up and step off the train M: The land before time F: Welcome to America M: All the freaks are here F: All you have to do is make your promise M: And stay on your grind F: I have come up M: 30,000 Megawatts of power, baby, radiating your soul! F: Sign right here on the dotted line M: Come on, get you some free M: Ladies and gentlemen, before exiting the train, please leave your valuables - diamonds, rubies and pearls - in the cabinet adjacent to your left. Umm, the pussycats and the jackals, you can leave them with me. Bwahahaha! M: I won't steer you wrong! M: 'Cause we take your history, and make it a modern mystery, you see what I'm saying? G: Nnnnnnnn... Mommy I'm scared! M: Welcome, all! M: Oh, we love you! F: Just sign right here M: We love to love you! F: Is it gonna hurt? M: We love to suck you dry. F: Oh no! Freedom is here! M: All the while, we're keeping you high. F: I just want some nude lips, new hips. Come on! M: Money. Sex. F: It's the American Dream. Everyone has it. Give one! M: Excuse… Excuse me young lady F: That feel good? Promise! M: Excuse me, you're causing quite a disturbance over here. G: [The people?] [????] M: I want everyone to see this! F: Yeah! G: Does this mean we'll never see Mu again? M: I think we're gonna have to make an example out of her. Rid me of her sight! M: But before you get rid of her, give me... give me a brain tissue sample. That might be good for later. I might need that. M: Anyone else have any questions?! M: Well, go on give it to me then! G: Uh, ow, ohh! M: You see? You see how easy it is? You see what we can do with a little bit of work and effort, people? M: I love America, it's such a beautiful place! F: Hey, you think I can get a new, uh... heart? M: This is the place where it all goes down. Everything you could want, everything you could desire! F: Uh, Come on! G: [???] free radiation, right there. M: Ha ha! I'm coming to America, baby! Welcome! F: Oh... come on. G: Excuse me, sir. M: Yes young... yes little girl? G: Has anyone seen my 42 laws? M: Oh I'm sorry, we're not responsible for lost articles and thangs. G: Oh. PP: OK, so whenever he say a key word, everybody just shout, on cue! G: That's not science. PP: Ssssh! M2: You're not supposed to say it.

Ministry
Both as a standalone and as part of the DSOTS album, you can take this lyric as read. As a matter of public record, Jourgensen's drug intake was legendary even in the 1980s. By the late 90s, in his own words, he was grappling with massive addiction issues and had lost almost everything: friends, spouse, money and had nearly died more than once. "Dark Side of the Spoon" is a both funny & sad title for an album made by a musical genius who was losing the plot; and this song is a message to his fans & friends saying he knows it. It's painful to listen to so I'm glad the "Keith Richards of industrial metals" wised up and cleaned up. Well done sir.

Standing On The Edge Of Summer
Thursday
In regards to the meaning of this song: Before a live performance on the EP Five Stories Falling, Geoff states “It’s about the last time I went to visit my grandmother in Columbus, and I saw that she was dying and it was the last time I was going to see her. It is about realizing how young you are, but how quickly you can go.” That’s the thing about Geoff and his sublime poetry, you think it’s about one thing, but really it’s about something entirely different. But the lyrics are still universal and omnipresent, ubiquitous, even. So relatable. That’s one thing I love about this band. I also love their live performances, raw energy and Geoff’s beautiful, imperfectly perfect vocals. His voice soothes my aching soul.

Mountain Song
Jane's Addiction
Jane's Addiction vocalist Perry Farrell gives Adam Reader some heartfelt insight into Jane’s Addiction's hard rock manifesto "Mountain Song", which was the second single from their revolutionary album Nothing's Shocking. Mountain song was first recorded in 1986 and appeared on the soundtrack to the film Dudes starring Jon Cryer. The version on Nothing's Shocking was re-recorded in 1988. "'Mountain Song' was actually about... I hate to say it but... drugs. Climbing this mountain and getting as high as you can, and then coming down that mountain," reveals Farrell. "What it feels to descend from the mountain top... not easy at all. The ascension is tough but exhilarating. Getting down is... it's a real bummer. Drugs is not for everybody obviously. For me, I wanted to experience the heights, and the lows come along with it." "There's a part - 'Cash in now honey, cash in Miss Smith.' Miss Smith is my Mother; our last name was Smith. Cashing in when she cashed in her life. So... she decided that, to her... at that time, she was desperate. Life wasn't worth it for her, that was her opinion. Some people think, never take your life, and some people find that their life isn't worth living. She was in love with my Dad, and my Dad was not faithful to her, and it broke her heart. She was very desperate and she did something that I know she regrets."

Gentle Hour
Yo La Tengo
This song was originally written by a guy called Peter Gutteridge. He was one of the founders of the "Dunedin Sound" a musical scene in the south of New Zealand in the early 80s. From there it was covered by "The Clean" one of the early bands of that scene (he had originally been a member of in it's early days, writing a couple of their best early songs). The Dunedin sound, and the Clean became popular on american college radio in the mid to late 80s. I guess Yo La Tengo heard that version. Great version of a great song,

Magical
Ed Sheeran
How would you describe the feeling of being in love? For Ed Sheeran, the word is “Magical.” in HIS three-minute album opener, he makes an attempt to capture the beauty and delicacy of true love with words. He describes the magic of it all over a bright Pop song produced by Aaron Dessner.
