Next Time Around Lyrics
One too many goals
That measure out your worth
To seek your weight in gold
Sat by the ivory sill
the further out you look
the further out you'll be
Its not enought to set the terms
if nothing ventured, nothing earned
Though odds are set against, in time
I'll belong to you
its how its meant to be
Settled on your own
swepping dust from stones
with a letter home
Back where the hours long
the simplest things invite a thrill
If just by noticing at will
Its not enought to set the terms
if nothing ventured, nothing learned
Its how it's always been
E onde a sorte ha de te levar
Saiba, o camino e o fim, mais que chegar
E queira o dia ser
Gentil a tua mao aberta para quem e
aberta para quem e
In time
I'll belong to you
that's how its meant to be
And how it's always been
That measure out your worth
To seek your weight in gold
the further out you look
the further out you'll be
if nothing ventured, nothing earned
Though odds are set against, in time
I'll belong to you
its how its meant to be
swepping dust from stones
with a letter home
the simplest things invite a thrill
If just by noticing at will
if nothing ventured, nothing learned
Its how it's always been
Saiba, o camino e o fim, mais que chegar
E queira o dia ser
Gentil a tua mao aberta para quem e
aberta para quem e
I'll belong to you
that's how its meant to be
And how it's always been

the portuguese part:
E onde a sorte há de te levar Saiba, o caminho é o fim, mais que chegar E queira o dia ser gentil À tua mão aberta pra quem é
in english:
in english:
And where the fortune (or lucky) will lead you You have to know, the path is the end, ("mais que chegar" doesn't really make sense but the translation is "more to arrive/come") And if the day wants to be gentil To your open hand for who is it
And where the fortune (or lucky) will lead you You have to know, the path is the end, ("mais que chegar" doesn't really make sense but the translation is "more to arrive/come") And if the day wants to be gentil To your open hand for who is it
In a very general, nonspecific way, I think this song is about being patient, not taking on more than you can handle, etc.
The Portuguese part and these two bits give me that feeling:
One too many goals That measure out your worth To seek your weight in gold
Its not enought to set the terms if nothing ventured, nothing learned
But then the rest of the lyrics are more specific, and I'm not entirely sure about what. To me it sounds like being patient with some manner of a long distance relationship:
Sat by the ivory sill the further out you look the further out you'll be
Settled on your own swepping dust from stones with a letter home
Back where the hours long the simplest things invite a thrill If just by noticing at will
Finally, this part ties together the general idea of patience with the theme of a long distance relationship. It's just mentioning how patience and a positive outlook can be important in that situation. I wouldn't think the lyrics here are supposed to be ironic, since the music itself doesn't totally give me that impression.
In time I'll belong to you that's how its meant to be And how it's always been
