Are you under the impression
This isn't your life?
Do you dabble in depression?
Is someone twisting a knife in your back?
Are you being attacked?
Oh this is a fact, that you need to know, oh, oh, oh, oh

Wilco, Wilco, Wilco will love you, baby

Are times getting tough?
Are the roads you travel rough?
Have you had enough of the old?
Tired of being exposed to the cold?
Stare at your stereo
Put on your headphones before you explode, oh, oh, oh, oh

Wilco, Wilco, Wilco will love you, baby

So many wars that just can't be won, oh, oh, oh
Even before the battle's begun, oh, oh, oh
This is all of our arms open wide
Sonic shoulder for you to cry, cry, cry, on

Wilco, Wilco will love you, baby

Is someone twisting a knife in your back?
Are you being attacked?
Oh this is a fact that you need to know, oh, oh, oh, oh

Wilco, Wilco, Wilco, Wilco, Wilco will love you, baby

    It's pretty easy to get.

The song is saying...If you are feeling down and out, depressed, the world is turning it's back on you, or just plain feel like crap, all you need to do is put on headphones and listen to some Wilco.

    SO GOOOOOOOD!

It definitely means all of the above, it's such a personal statement to their listeners. Tweedy is our best friend through all the rough times. The rest of the band too, but I mean come on, Jeff Tweedy is the most heartwarming voice you will ever hear.

Yeah, maybe the song is self-aware, but I think it's in essence just saying to escape the stress of life with some good music, whether it's Wilco or someone else.

Jeff Tweedy described this song as the group's infomercial. He tried to sing other lyrics, like, 'Let go, let go. Someone will love you, baby.' But he didnt think it sounded right. So he kept saying 'Wilco' because it fit better than anything else he could think of, and everyone thought it was funny and made them all smile.

I heart this band. They make me feel like no other band ever has before. This is their way of saying "Hey, we heart you too." It's that back and forth relationship that, in my opinion, keeps their ships sailing far beyond where many others have been wrecked.

Well now that they're streaming the new album from their website, you can hear that some of these lyrics have changed. In the second verse, it's "Put on your headphones before you explode, oh oh oh Wilco, Wilco, Wilco will love you."

Although I kind of wish they left the nod to Colbert...

Don't take these lyrics at face value. First, a list of the heavy woes of life, then the simple tongue-in-cheek solution: Listen to my band. “Wilco will love you” is making a promise the singer can’t possibly keep. He knows it, and he knows you know he knows it. He's saying, sorry, I can't really help you. The message of the song is a joke, the title of the song is a joke, the title of the album is a joke, and even the name of the band is a joke: “Wilco” in aviation slang means “will comply,” a funny name for any rock band, especially one that pushes the envelope like....Wilco. And yet they’re also serious.

Holiday
Bee Gees
@[Diderik:33655] "Your a holiday!" Was a popular term used in the 50s/60s to compliment someone on their all around. For example, not only are they beautiful, but they are fun and kind too ... just an all around "holiday". I think your first comment is closer to being accurate. The singer/song writers state "Millions of eyes can see, yet why am i so blind!? When the someone else is me, its unkind its unkind". I believe hes referring to the girl toying with him and using him. He wants something deeper with her, thats why he allows himself to be as a puppet (even though for her fun and games) as long as it makes her happy. But he knows deep down that she doesnt really want to be serious with him and thats what makes him.

Gentle Hour
Yo La Tengo
This song was originally written by a guy called Peter Gutteridge. He was one of the founders of the "Dunedin Sound" a musical scene in the south of New Zealand in the early 80s. From there it was covered by "The Clean" one of the early bands of that scene (he had originally been a member of in it's early days, writing a couple of their best early songs). The Dunedin sound, and the Clean became popular on american college radio in the mid to late 80s. I guess Yo La Tengo heard that version. Great version of a great song,

Punchline
Ed Sheeran
Ed Sheeran sings about missing his former partner and learning important life lessons in the process on “Punchline.” This track tells a story of battling to get rid of emotions for a former lover, whom he now realized might not have loved him the same way. He’s now caught between accepting that fact and learning life lessons from it and going back to beg her for another chance.

Plastic Bag
Ed Sheeran
“Plastic Bag” is a song about searching for an escape from personal problems and hoping to find it in the lively atmosphere of a Saturday night party. Ed Sheeran tells the story of his friend and the myriad of troubles he is going through. Unable to find any solutions, this friend seeks a last resort in a party and the vanity that comes with it. “I overthink and have trouble sleepin’ / All purpose gone and don’t have a reason / And there’s no doctor to stop this bleedin’ / So I left home and jumped in the deep end,” Ed Sheeran sings in verse one. He continues by adding that this person is feeling the weight of having disappointed his father and doesn’t have any friends to rely on in this difficult moment. In the second verse, Ed sings about the role of grief in his friend’s plight and his dwindling faith in prayer. “Saturday night is givin’ me a reason to rely on the strobe lights / The lifeline of a promise in a shot glass, and I’ll take that / If you’re givin’ out love from a plastic bag,” Ed sings on the chorus, as his friend turns to new vices in hopes of feeling better.
