Crystal Ball Lyrics
Drinkin wine and thinkin bliss is on the other side of this
I just need a compass and a willing accomplice
All my doubts that fill my head cascading up and down again
Up and down around again, down and up and down again
Oh I’ve had my chances and I’ve taken them all
Just to end up right back here on the floor
To end up right back here on the floor
Pennies in a well
A million dollars in the fountain of a hotel
Fortune teller says maybe you won’t go to hell
But I’m not scared at all
Mmm mmm mmm mmm mmm
The cracks in the crystal, the cracks in the crystal ball
Sometimes you think everything is wrapped inside a diamond ring
Love just needs a witness, and a little forgiveness
And a halo of patience, and a less sporadic pace, and
I’m learnin to be brave in my beautiful mistakes
Oh, I’ve felt that fire, and I, I’ve been burned,
But I wouldn’t trade the pain for what I’ve learned
I wouldn’t trade the pain for what I’ve learned
Pennies in a well
A million dollars in the fountain of a hotel
Fortune teller that says maybe you won’t go to hell
But I’m not scared at all
Mmm mmm mmm mmm mmm
Of the cracks in the crystal, the cracks in the crystal ball
Irony, irony is hating love, hating love
For what it does to me, what it’s done to me
What it’s done, done
Pennies in a well
A million dollars in the fountain of a hotel
Broken mirrors and a black cat’s cold stare
Walk under ladders on my way to hell
I’ll meet you there
But I’m not scared at all
Mmm mmm mmm mmm mmm
No, I’m not scared at all
Of the cracks in the crystal, the cracks in the crystal ball
I just need a compass and a willing accomplice
All my doubts that fill my head cascading up and down again
Up and down around again, down and up and down again
Just to end up right back here on the floor

This is the type of music I like to hear from P!nk. her deeper stuff outdoes her fun stuff.
I think this song is about living and not having regrets.
"Drinkin wine and thinkin bliss is on the other side of this I just need a compass and a willing accomplice All my doubts that fill my head cascading up and down again Up and down around again, down and up and down again"
She's not sure where she's going but it doesn't matter because everything will work out in the end.
"The cracks in the crystal, the cracks in the crystal ball"
represents how the future isn't 'set in stone' or a sure thing but not fearing the unknown but learning to accept it as we may not be here tomorrow.
"Sometimes you think everything is wrapped inside a diamond ring"
represents a spouse or engagement partner who is everything to you.
"Love just needs a witness, and a little forgiveness And a halo of patience, and a less sporadic pace, "
conveys the effort that love takes but how worth it it is when you are willing to work at a relationship.
In the lines
"Irony, irony is hating love, hating love For what it does to me, what it’s done to me What it’s done, done"
P!nk explains how she can't hate love for what it's done to her because that would be ironic as the love that hurt her has made her who it is today.
Anyway that's just my take on the song, this is by far my favorite on the whole Funhouse album.
I agree with most of your interpretation, but the irony part. The lyrics are "this hate and love" not hating love. I think this totally changes the meaning. I've been married 34 years and the irony is that at times you really hate the person you love.

This song is about a shattered fairy tale of marriage. The future did not hold up to her expectation. wishful thinking isn't usually true to life. and sitting thinking and being hurt by it all playing over and over in her heard...hoping that a drink will ease the pain is ludacris. ...but still we try....I hate love too. really I do. Love stinks...but hey thats another song!
This song is heartfelt and brilliant by the way. I love it!
I think people sometimes are looking way too deeply.

Ok this part about getting drunk and hoping to find bliss in the drunken state. But she needs someone to be drinking with and to be pointed in the direction of the fun. But knowing that the bad times will still come into her...

"Oh I've had my chances and I've taken them all Just to end up right back here on the floor To end up right back here on the floor"
She feels it doesnt matter what she does it all ends up back into the bad times.
"Pennies in a well A million dollars in the fountain of a hotel Fortune teller says maybe you will go to hell But I'm not scared at all Mmm mmm mmm mmm mmm The cracks in the crystal, the cracks in the crystal ball"
Ok here is the crunch of it all. Throwing pennies in a well to make a wish. In fact so many people wishing for something better that there are millions of pennies in the fountain of the hotel. And beyond the wishes the future as told be the fortuen teller says she going to hell. But she aint scared at all, as most of us are not. becasue even though the forutne teller is looking into a crystal ball to see a future. there are cracks in the crytal ball which means the future is not exactly waht the the fortune sees. The cracks distort the image.
"Sometimes you think everything is wrapped inside a diamond ring Love just needs a witness, and a little forgiveness And a halo of patience, and a less sporadic pace, and I'm learnin to be brave in my beautiful mistakes"
ok this one very obvious, love has nothing to do with marriage. It all about accepting each others and our own mistakes.
"Oh, I've felt that fire, and I, I've been burned, But I wouldn't trade the pain for what I've learned I wouldn't trade the pain for what I've learned"
Again all the bad experiences lead to more learnings. but it doesnt stop it huritng. we jsut ahve to keep learming.
"Irony, irony is hating love, hating love For what it does to me, what it's done to me What it's done, done"
Ok notihng new there, yes soemtiems we hate love becasue it hurts when it ends or goes wrong.
Here is the my break down of MY interpretation of this song and how it speaks to MY soul. Sometimes I think too deep.
The compass and willing accomplice is about a new relationship and the euphoria of falling for that person and then the unbearable fear of being hurt yet once again.
The fountain filled with pennies, to me, is about looking for that one person in life who is genuine, accepting, has unconditional love and a healthy view of understanding and compassion as well as good communication.
The fortune teller is about the past experiences saying its always going to be the same and love (relationships) will continue to bring pain and suffering.
The crack in the crystal ball is the future and the inability to predict what will happen. So no fear. Just move forward and risk vulnerability.
The everything in diamond ring verse is about waiting to be married to give all of yourself because that's what moral and right. But eventually there is a struggle within that relationship and it is not what you thought it would be. But that mistake is something you couldn't have known going in and you gave it your all anyway. But in the end the marriage dissolves, the pain is overwhelming. However, that pain has helped you grow to be a better person. More loving, more understanding, more giving. So in the end it was worth it because you grew as a person.
The irony is, you loved that person from your past and when the relationship ended it lead to a loss of what you thought life was going to be. This created doubt about true love after being so vulnerable and being hurt.
BUT, you still believe in fate and continue to look for that special someone who is as passionate about life as you are and you continue to toss pennies in the fountain of hope. Someone who embodies goodness. Someone who embraces you for all that you are. And that, after all, is not superstitious. You are again willing to be vulnerable and risk your heart being broken. (hell).
So fear has to be tossed and vulnerability has to be present. As there is no way to predict the future. (Crack in crystal ball)
The crack is in the crystal ball.
