Before You Were Young Lyrics
In the days before you were young
We used to sit in the mourning sun
We used to turn the radio on
What happened?
We'd see our lies in the eyes of faith
And take our cradles to the grave
Well even then we never saved
From danger
And if you ever leave me come
I will be there waiting
Waiting for you know i will
I love you for ever
I'll never say never
Bet i've only got two hands
And i'll never learn to dance
I'll never get a second chance
Whatever
I'll take the breath away from your sighs
And wipe the tears away from your eyes
And hope the fire never dies
Inside you
And if you ever leave me come
I will be there waiting
Waiting for you know i will
I love you
In the days before you were young
We used to sit in the mourning sun
We used to turn the radio on

this song explodes my heart. it's about commitment. something happended between them and he doesn't understand what. it's just the time, the routine. and he still loves her, desperetely
I'm pretty sure the line "If you ever leave me come" (which makes no sense) is actually "If you ever need me, call"
My favorite part of this song is the three "I love you"s followed by that great drum part.
I believe the line is:
And if you ever need me call I will be there waiting when you fall You know I will
Nope, I believe the lyrics are accurate.

I too believe it's "if you ever need me call". Here's proof: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=m97rwhytgGE (min 1:00)

oh wow..
The phrase "before you were young" is a weird one. What does it mean? I actually get the feeling the whole J Smith album is a story told in reverse, starting with his suicide and going back to this point where a happier time is referenced. Maybe that's why the reference to things being reversed here: "before you were young", "take our cradles to the grave", "if you ever leave me come"...
This song brings a lump to my throat and a tear to my eye every time I listen to it.
My interpretation is that he has lost his girl who he desperately loves as she has decided that she feels younger than she actually is and wants to go off into the wide world.
She feels bored by her existing life with her partner so leaves her besotted lover behind.
He is devastated and will wait for ever for her to return to him as he will never love any other girl.
I agree. Her lover is drunk.
I agree. Her lover is drunk.
This song is delicious....gorgeous
And if you ever leave me ''come''. WRONG? And if you ever leave me ''call''. CORRECT!!
