Anna No Lyrics
Well, after I ate I went outside
To catch some air
And to walk off my drink
And I rolled tobacco
And watched as the smoke rolled
And magically like you left me
And I made a firm fist and,
Pissed, thought it brilliant
To throw my hand into the door
I knew I would have to
Admit that I was wrong
I decided to talk no more
Anna, no.
What an embarrassing way to go.
If you wrote a list
Of the times I considered
To swim in my heavenly home
And God and His angels
Are all under water
And callin' my name once for all
Oh and I had this hat
That I lost in September
I miss you less than that, you know
Oh how can a man
Seek revenge on a woman
He wants to believe has no soul
No home.
Anna, no.
What an embarrassing way to go
To catch some air
And to walk off my drink
And watched as the smoke rolled
And magically like you left me
Pissed, thought it brilliant
To throw my hand into the door
Admit that I was wrong
I decided to talk no more
What an embarrassing way to go.
Of the times I considered
To swim in my heavenly home
Are all under water
And callin' my name once for all
That I lost in September
I miss you less than that, you know
Seek revenge on a woman
He wants to believe has no soul
No home.
What an embarrassing way to go

I keep vacillating between whose is the "embarrassing" one; him or her. And by going... are we still on the suicide theme, as in "go"; or is it her leaving him for his brother the going, or "go" as in "we're going in this direction" go. Like, how could it have gone this way, and everyone sees it? Yeah, I'm way too much of an English teacher, and I realize that a simple two letter word can have some many meanings! Any thoughts???
At first I thought the song was about suicide and it still may be, but after a few more listens I have a new theory. I think the key to this is the song title "MEMORIES FROM A SHORE" I wonder if he is just remembering how his wife cheated on him, and how embarrassing it was to just leave without confronting her or his brother. That would be the simple answer yes?

"I decided to [not] talk no more"
"and watched as the smoke floated magically like you left me"
this song makes everything better for some reason. I can totally relate to the lyrics and the being drunk and hating ex lovers but not really hating them because you love them so much. and fuck. this song is my song. andy hull is the most talented person in the world and i would kill to just talk to him for a day. mmhm. id kill.
