The History of Everything Lyrics
Our whole universe was in a hot dense state,
Then nearly fourteen billion years ago expansion started. Wait...
The Earth began to cool,
The autotrophs began to drool,
Neanderthals developed tools,
We built a wall (we built the pyramids),
Math, science, history, unraveling the mystery,
That all started with the big bang! BANG!
"Since the dawn of man" is really not that long,
As every galaxy was formed in less time
than it takes to sing this song.
A fraction of a second and the elements were made.
The bipeds stood up straight,
The dinosaurs all met their fate,
They tried to leap but they were late
And they all died (they froze their asses off)
The ocean said "Pangaea?
"See ya, wouldn't wanna be ya!"
Set in motion by the same big bang!
It all started with a big BANG!
It's expanding ever outward but one day
It will pause, then start to go the other way,
Collapsing ever inward,
we won't be here, it wont be heard
Our best and brightest figure that
it'll make an even bigger bang!
Australopithecus would really have been sick of us
Debating how we're here,
they're catching deer (we're catching viruses)
Religion or astronomy (Descartes or Deuteronomy)
It all started with a big bang!
Music and mythology (Einstein and astrology)
It all started with a big bang!
It all started with a big BANG!
Then nearly fourteen billion years ago expansion started. Wait...
The Earth began to cool,
The autotrophs began to drool,
Neanderthals developed tools,

"So, this next song does not have a rhyme for the word 'orange' in it, but it does contain the word 'Australopithecus.'" -Ed Robertson before they performed this song live at Red Rocks.
Errrr, yeah, I'm surprised this doesn't have more comments. Its essentially a very quick run down of the origins of the universe, from the initial explosion of a singular point into every element and galaxy, through to the Earth's formation, cooling, production of oxygen, and the advent of life and humans. The last part is a little jab at how silly humans are for being so caught up in trying to make sense of it all, when its simultaneously simple and unfathomably complicated. There's a great irony in creating such a short, simple (and fast!) song to explain everything that exists and why. I luuuurve it.
The "Big Bang Theory Theme" lyrics tell a scientific history of the universe and its matter and life. A little like "We Didn't Start The Fire" except Billy Joel's lyrics mostly list names in chronological order; whereas this song provides a little story and humor. I was glad to see there are more verses after the first and then found it on YT.
how does this have no comments, its the theme tune to Big Bang Theory on E4! Great tune, though i doubt you're going to struggle trying to guess what this song is about.
I think it's about a really big cannon which is fired... then making a BANG!
The Big Bang Theory Rulez! (both of them)
It's about being in love and really wanting the person to be the center of your world
... I'm joking
Great song! Mini-educational session. Great tune. The live versions are funny the guy doesn't know past the first verse LOL
Good stuff
When I first heard this song (as the theme to that sictom about nerdy physicists) I though it had to be They Might Be Giants, not Bare Naked Ladies. I mean they already had silly school-ish songs about the sun (Why Does The Sun Shine / The Sun is a Mass of Incandescent Gas), Who Put The Alphabet In Order, Tippecanoe and Tyler Too, James K. Polk, Meet The Elements, Can You Find It, and Istanbul.
It is ironic that when Chuck Lorre was describing The Big Bang Theory's rip-off "The Theorists" (look it up) he said the theme to that rip-off show was the cheesiest piece of pop in the world. xD But I still love this song, even though the vocals are not that good. Mainly because I love The Big Bang Theory! (Both of them!) :D
I think it's "it will pause and start to go the other way" instead of "it will cause the stars to go the other way" And "it won't be heard" instead of "it won't be hurt" (hurt doesn't even make sense there).
I'm such a science nerd so I love this song :)
This song is the theme song to the television show The Big Bang on Nbc thursday 8:00
