Hairline Fracture Lyrics
A sinking ship an awkward kiss
A chance to set things straight
The kind of hurt that burns and burns
Like fires we can’t contain
We hole up in a shelter made of bones and ice and there we’ll wait
So start again with steady hands
This time nothing gets in our way
But as we peer a little closet what do we see ?
A crack in the surface
A flaw in the plan (plans we made together, almost buried in the sand)
A cadence imperfect
Like a building condemned (can we indemnify ourselves if we don’t face what we’re against)
A promise kept
The dirt unswept
A poorly worn disguise
A child unloved that then grows up
To love what we despise
We’re broken but still breathing
We are wounded but we are healing
We pick up right where we left off
Breathe on the ashed that remain
So that these coals may become fire
To guide our way
A crack in the surface
A flaw in the plan (plans we made together, almost buried in the sand)
A cadence imperfect
Like a building condemned (can we indemnify ourselves if we don’t face what we’re against)
I walk on wounds that seldom prove to slow me down
I laugh this constant pain away
So you can’t tell
But there it lies under the smiles
It drains me mile after mile
But seldom proves to slow me down
Here I go
Should we just hold on
To what remains of
What we though was lost
But its just a crack in the surface
A flaw in the plan (plans we made together, almost buried in the sand)
A cadence imperfect
Like a building condemned (can we indemnify ourselves if we don’t face what we’re against)

Here's just a crazy idea of an interpretation,
I think it's about a family who's father in the military and 9/11 happens. They have all these plans of becoming a normal family and living their lives in peace. However 9/11 happens and all their plans are no longer perfect, because 9/11 creates the crack in "the surface" of their plans. No their plans are almost entirely destroyed. As if they were "buried" in the sand.
"Like a building condemned, (Can we indemnify ourselves if we don't face what we're against.)"
This is referring to the twin towers, and then they're asking if we don't go fight the terrorists can we still defend ourselves against this from happening in the future.
"A child unloved that then grows up, to love what we despise"
This is referring to Bin Laden, how he has now grown to love violence and killing innocent civilians.
"We're broken but still breathing We are wounded but we are healing We pick up right where we left off Breathe on the ashed that remain
So that these coals may become fire To guide our way"
This is saying that 9/11 really hurt us as a country and screwed our way of life up, but we're trying to get over it. The ashes of 9/11 help remind us of what happened, and they help to kindle a flame within us to fight against those who hate us.
"I walk on wounds that seldom prove to slow me down I laugh this constant pain away So you can't tell But there it lies under the smiles It drains me mile after mile But seldom proves to slow me down Here I go'
This is the father saying that he misses his family and the wounds of war keep piling up but he keeps going. He tries to laugh away his pain with his fellow soldiers and he tries keep fighting even though he is slowly being worn down by the pains of war. "Here I go" is him going out into battle and having doubts as he goes out to the battlefield.
Just a crazy idea, but I thought it kind of fit well with some of the lyrics.
That seems spot on. I never thought of it that way.
That seems spot on. I never thought of it that way.
It's actually not so crazy when you think about it.
It's actually not so crazy when you think about it.
I think it's about trying to appear perfect but when you examine the "perfection" there are many flaws in it.
This song is great and the meaning is actually quite simple. He basically saying that you cant let a little pain or hiccup slow you down, you have to keep pushing forward cuz in reality its just something small like a hairline fracture. SUre it hurts but there's no point in letting it hold you back and completely control you. This is illustrated in this line; We pick up right where we left off Breathe on the ashed that remain So that these coals may become fire To guide our way
when i hear this song im thinking tht it means tht no matter what problems we will get into "a crack in the surface" there will always be a solution "but its just a crack in the surface a flaw in the plans we made together almost buried in the sand". with that line i think he is trying to say that no matter how good we plan things... it will never go straight after the plans :) total meaning: dont ever give up no matter how hopeless it seems :) reply if u understand it that way too. remember songs can mean anything ;) each person gets each meaning of it. and RA forever!
This song has meant so much to meaning to and what i think this song is about is how no matter what happens to you and how bad it can get and after hope is just about lost you cant give up u have to keep on going cause without us society cant grow we are the fabric of the future and also that life comes with troubles but you cant let it stop you from your beleafs and love
I would say its about life will give you speed bumps, and youll trip and fall through out your life, Youll be hurt by plenty of people, but You have to keep pressing through life. "Its just a crack in the surface, a flaw in the plan" - Even though it didnt go the way you expected, thats okay, no big deal, just keep moving.
"I walk on wounds That seldom prove to slow me down I laugh this constant pain away So you can't tell But there it lies under the smiles It drains me mile after mile But seldom proves to slow me down Here I go Here I go Here I go"
This is the part where you realize that you cant wear your heart on your sleeve, You have to smile through the pain and the sorrow, and know that everything is going to be okay, just dont stop moving.
This song, for me,is about how poverty has deprived some children from education and then they tried to solve their problems but they ended up failing but their hopes are still high.
I like how they made their new album. It's a completely new style by them.Awesome.
I think its basically about how when you go to do something or stand up for what you believe or whatever, you will most likely fall, but a strong person will always get up
Everyone has flaws, even the gov't. That is exactly what this song is about. 'nuff said. It's saying that if you look really close, everything and everyone has a "crack in the surface an flaw in the plans..." look a little closer and you will clearly understand what he is saying.
I believe this song is saying that not everything is perfect, everything has flaws, and we shouldn't let that ruin what we had planned. "JUST a crack in the surface" this means it can be overcome, but we as people, tend to give up before we try. There are many more examples I can provide in the lyrics, but I'll leave that up to you guys/gals.
