when i hear this song im thinking tht it means tht no matter what problems we will get into "a crack in the surface" there will always be a solution "but its just a crack in the surface a flaw in the plans we made together almost buried in the sand". with that line i think he is trying to say that no matter how good we plan things... it will never go straight after the plans :)
