The Strength to Go On Lyrics
Welcome home
While away
They have tampered with the locks
And your things they rearranged
We propose a better way.
Said they not they left behind
In their wake of disarray
You fell in place
Dont fall asleep
Theyll find us here
I know a place to disappear
As a voice proclaimed
What we are is the sum of 1000 lies
What we know is almost nothing at all
But we are what we are until the day we die
Or until we dont have the strength to go on
Let us cry
Let us be
Let us open up our hearts
Without fear of anything
Faith alone
Is all we need
To traverse this burning bridge
Now before it gets too late
You said. its fine
But the heart reveals
What smiles betray
Your sad sad eyes gave you away
Dont you know
What we are is the sum of 1000 lies
What we know is almost nothing at all
But we are what we are until the day we die
Or until we dont have the strength to go on
Our shoulders bear an awful weight
But still we trudge on just the same
These colors run then leave a stain
They blacken our once honest name
But how can we argue, tell me
Over the fury and the fire
How many times can we tell you that we
Are not like you, we see right through
Your poor disguise that fails to fool
The wary eye that is trained on you
What we are is the sum of 1000 lies
What we know is almost nothing at all
But we are what we are until the day we die
Or until we dont have the strength to go on
While away

"These colors run then leave a stain" is such and incredible line to counter all those people with the "these colors don't run" stickers in there trucks. Sounds to me like the song is about America's tarnish reputation by our leaders.
at the end when he repeats the chourus twice the first time it sounds like "Lives" instead of "Lies" but all the other times it sounds like "Lies"
This is not a solid meaning, but it comes to my mind when I listen to the song.
My favorite book series of all time is the Sword of Truth series by Terry Goodkind. It's a big , 12 book series with each book being 700 - 1000 pages. Like RA, the books are filled with meaning. I was reading one of the books, and this song came on. After listening to the lyrics closely, I seemed that this song was made for the book. No joke. It's almost as if it's the series crammed into a few verses. A
Anyway, that's just my feeling. I doubt that RA actually based this song on the books, but they both have the same beliefs.
Really, I absoulutely love that book series this is my 3rd time reading the books, which book reminds you of this song? As a fellow Sword of Truth lover i have to say that the tv series was a complete let down :(

I know that I wasn't asked, yet I'll give a quick response, regardless.
@ILikeThatPanda,
I'm going to go ahead and venture a guess that few - if any - of these guys are Christian. Being that they stand in opposition to just about everything that Christian Society has created, I'd be blown away to learn otherwise. Frankly, with their world view, the way events are really going down and the way things are headed, I can't imagine why they'd believe in any god at all. Maybe Buddhism, at the worst.
It is a damn good question though. Because I've wondered the same. Too bad the likelihood of them over proclaiming a religious-alliance (if any) is next-to-nil. And good on them for it. Don't let the nonsense get in the way of the truth, right?
Why does their religious preference matter in this? o.O

I think it's about a soldier coming home after a tour or duty and the struggle of day to day life We propose,A better way"Said the note they left behind in their wake of disarray is like him get home to his wife leaving and alot more if you look at it like that
This song begins with a 1984 feel:
"They have tampered with the locks And your things they rearranged
'We propose a better way.' Said the note they left behind"
the chorus is a fairly true statement of all people, being the sum of many a lie, but the emphasis is that the song sings of people particularly surrounded by lies and little truth to the point at which they have little they can truely be certain of. I like the point they make that people are who they are until they die or until they break under pressure. Everyone breaks down under torture it's just a matter of time and pain.
one of the more interesting themes of the song is the distrust of one of the people that accompany the main singer. He distrusts someone (the second person understood) because the look in their eyes but truly he's heard too many lies to really believe that they're really a liar despite the look in that person's eyes. run through a world of lies there's little to believe, so despite the belief that they aren't who they say they are they remain with the main singer despite the many times he tells the second person understood that he doesn't believe them.
The melody reminds me of their other song entitled "The Good Left Undone",impressive.
"But we are what we are until the day we die Or until we don’t have the strength to go on" i think its like untill you have your own voice, your beliefs, untill you break under the pressure of society.
@mxbrady - 1000 LIES is in the booklet and Tim himself says that this song is about information that spins in the world
"But the heart reveals What smiles betray Your sad sad eyes gave you away Don’t you know"
~~LOVE this part!!
i am just putting this out there: could this be referring to TIbet?
"In their wake of disarray" "you fell in place"
it could be talking about the communism and how they were just put in place...through the confusion and force the tibetans were manipulated
"your poor disguise that fails to fool"
could be referring to China's attempt to mask what they were doing to the Tibetans
just putting that out there, although i don't think it was meant to be quite that litteral?
perhaps it can just be applied to that..
I think you might be right.
