From Heads Unworthy Lyrics

We are the children you reject and disregard
These aching cries come from the bottom of our hearts
You can’t disown us now, we are your own flesh and blood
We don’t disappear just because your eyes are shut, now tell me

Love
Loss
Like a bullets path
Tear
Through
The cavity of my chest
Lights
Out
Because the fuse has blown

As your castles crumble slowly
We watch them fall
The crown slips from heads unworthy
As we take control

This is the family that we crossed or never had
This is a war that was lost the day that it began
Because it’s the race we run, but it keeps us at the start
It’s the song I sung from the bottom of heart, that’s how we

Read
You
Like a polygraph
Not
One
Single bone in your back
Own
Up
To how you let us down

As your castles crumble slowly
We watch them fall
The crown slips from heads unworthy
As we take control

Except for you and me, love
Everyone is the same, we know
But if too live, we have to be numb
I’d rather know the pain, I’d rather know
This happens almost never
But it happened once to me
And this will never be same
The ends we seam together

I’m not after fame and fortune
I’m after you
When I’ve served my time I swear I will come for you

As your castles crumble slowly
We watch them fall
The crown slips from heads unworthy
Right on to ours, but I’m after you…

Uh, dude, this song is NOT about abortion. In fact, and sorry to burst your bubble, Rise Against is pro-choice.

For proof, http://www.prochoiceamerica.org/news/press-releases/2004/22040129_punkvoter.html

To me, this song is about revolution. It's about taking back control of our lives from the fools in power, and taking back the power and giving it to whom it rightfully belongs - the people.

I think the entire song is about revolution. About how the government is falling apart and the power should go back to the people. My favorite line is "im not after fame or fortune. Im after you, When I’ve served my time I swear I will come for you" meaning that Tim would really have his message heard than get money for his music. thats the way i feel.

Also the line "But if too live, we have to be numb I’d rather know the pain, I’d rather know" is saying that he would rather fight than live in a society where you arnt free, numb in a sense. Thats the way I take it. I would love to hear others interpretations.

i love the line "im not after fame or fortune. i'm after you" as well. the whole revolution thing is what i thought about too. like the guy doesn't care what happens to him, he just wants the gov't to change. and is he serving time for the military, for jail for like treason or something, or like time for the country? what do you think?

also - i should add. the quote "This is the family that we crossed or never had This is a war that was lost the day that it began Because it’s the race we run, but it keeps us at the start" is basically saying that the family we lied to, or the one that wasn't really our family, is most likely iraq. we lost the war because we stayed at the start. meaning we maid abosultely no progress because "it's the race we run." -- just thought that was worth mentioning.

its fair lead not "family" ;)

This song could be just about anything; there are a lot of generalizations that could be applied to the way a lot of people feel about a lot of different situations.

The initial part of the song seems to setup a situation involving a younger generation disgusted with the older generations control of things coming into power. “It’s the song I sung from the bottom of heart”, is pure determination.

I don’t feel that this is directed towards any particular group, but rather a whole previous generation.

Then towards the end, it comes out that he is possibly speaking to his loved one.. and that once his goals are done he will be back for this person to live their life together.

As for the person that pointed “Not One single bone in your back” towards Bush… Of all things that can rightfully be said about this man, being spineless is not one of them.

The meaning of this song is pretty obvious if you listen to it several times. The song is from the point of view from the people the government has forgotten hence the lyric: "We are the children you reject and disregard". These people dont just vanish just because the governement doesnt care about them and has given up hence: "We don't disappear just because your eyes are shut". The next verse is trying to show they go through exactly the same as everyone else and feel the same things, however no one hears about it because the media dont report it hence: "Lights, Out Because the fuse has blown" The chorus is saying that when the government falls the people they have ignored will stand back and watch as it collapses. The crown splling down is the burecrats losing control as the people take control of their destinys.

The next verse is stating that just because the government and media ignore them, other people dont and the word will slowly spread. The song sung is people asking for help leading into the next verse which is the people blaming the government for their problems and the government not taking responsiblity and having a backbone to help.

The next verse is saying that the forgotten people are just like other people and the pains they have been through have made them better people and by the end they are no different.

The last verse is a proclemation that these people dont want everything they just want to be recognised and get some help.

I think that this song is about revolting against the government. Obviously "heads unworthy" means the kings, from which the crown slips when they are being overthrown. "The Children you reject and disregard" means the people that the government tries to reject, similar to the "Long Forgotten Sons." ALso, the second part of this song, the part where they keep referencing "you" is basically saying that even such a revolutionary has a lover, and that once they have either served their time in prison for their actions, or finished the revolution, that they will leave the world of revolutions and power for a quiet life with their loved ones, like Washington.

My Interpretation

i think this song is most likely pointing towards america for the last eight years. like saying that the bush administration has failed to do their job and felt that they were the "crown." they reject us, their own "flesh and blood" as in like their own coutnry kinda thing. and i see what shrapnail means when he says bush isn't spineless.. because he really isn't in the sense of crap he's done. but if you read the begining and end it says that we read the person like a polygraph and in the end own up to waht you've done. so he's spineless in the sense that he can't admit he was wrong. because everyone knew he was in the beginning, he coudn't say he was, and he won't say he was. as for the chorus. the castles that crumble are all of bushes lies, all of his men and workers, and all of the things that were surrounding him that made him look like he was doing the right thing, things that were essentially protecting him and allowing him to do whatever he wanted. it didn't work out exactly like that, but that's the idea. so as we watch him fall apart and look even stupider than ever, his 'crown' of power falls of because he thinks he should rule the world, and we take control. :D

Song Meaning
Cover art for From Heads Unworthy lyrics by Rise Against

I think that this song could be about child abuse but with rise against, just about any of their songs are open to interpretation. Here's a walk through of the song:

"We are the children you reject and disregard These aching cries come from the bottom of our hearts You can’t disown us now, we are your own flesh and blood We don’t disappear just because your eyes are shut, now tell me "

The children aren't loved as they should be and are poorly treated, their pain is deep Parent's cant disown their kids so easily since they are blood related so they turn to other measures Kids dont just disappear when you want them to

"Love Loss Like a bullets path Tear Through The cavity of my chest Lights Out Because the fuse has blown"

Love is gone because of the pain you've caused me You kill me inside This has happened because you couldn't control yourself (fuses will blow because they are overloaded)

"As your castles crumble slowly We watch them fall The crown slips from heads unworthy As we take control"

As you ruin this relationship and you're presence as a roll model; we watch You will not always be in power and you dont deserve it now; we take control

"This is the family that we crossed or never had This is a war that was lost the day that it began Because it’s the race we run, but it keeps us at the start It’s the song I sung from the bottom of heart, that’s how we"

The abused child looking at a friend's family realizing they never had one like that The child could never win because they couldn't ever fight back against their parents The child wants to get out, wants to leave, but is held back. I say this sincerely and genuinely

"Read You Like a polygraph Not One Single bone in your back Own Up To how you let us down"

We see how you really think of us We can't stand up to you/You are too cowardly to deal w/your emotions Deal w/how you hurt me

Chorus is the same as the first

"Except for you and me, love Everyone is the same, we know But if too live, we have to be numb I’d rather know the pain, I’d rather know This happens almost never But it happened once to me And this will never be same The ends we seam together"

I love you because we're family and we're different than everyone else. I'd rather have this pain than not have a family This really never happens, but it happened to me This relationship will never be the same, we will meet when this ends.

"I’m not after fame and fortune I’m after you When I’ve served my time I swear I will come for you"

I'm not following a good example, I'm after you After this is over I will deal w/you.

Chorus is the same

Don't be stupid people, this song is not about gay rights, abortion, or child abuse.. It's obviously about Revolution, and war against Government. Don't read inbetween the lines when it comes to song lyrics.

Isn't that what so many lyrics do though? Think of Prince and "1999"--those words seemed simple enough, but really were meant towards Reagan and what was going on at the time.

Or "Turning Japanese"..I don't mean to be crude, but I think by now most people know what those lyrics are in reference to, and I am not talking about race in any manner.

Of course people should read between the lines at times of lyrics, and at other times lyrics are quite straight forward. For example: The nonsensical Paul Anka's "Having My...

@TheProctologist well good sir, if this song is about revolution that includes all of the things you mentioned in your comment, to revolt is to fight for your beliefs / rights against the corrupt governments of our screwed up world. You should read in between every single line because you're not seeing the true meaning.

i think personally its about adoption.

We are the children you reject and disregard You cant disown us now, we are your own flesh and blood We dont disappear just because your eyes are shut, now tell me

theyre saying theyre parents abandoned them but the children wont forget like the parents do when they give up their child.

This is the family that we crossed or never had

they never had the chance to be a family, cause they been given up and they never met their parents.

Not One Single bone in your back Own Up To how you let us down

it selfish and cowardly to give up a child and they feel dissapointed and let down the parent didnt want them.

As your castles crumble slowly We watch them fall The crown slips from heads unworthy As we take control

about that they put up walls they were obsessing over it,but theyre slowly getting over it,and the parents had all the control now they dont care about them anymore.

Except for you and me, love Everyone is the same, we know But if too live, we have to be numb Id rather know the pain, I rather know This happens almost never But it happened once to me And this will never be same The ends we seam together

how not everyones adopted but everyone knows whats like to be abondoned, rejected and alone and one point.

Im after you When Ive served my time I swear I will come for you

how theyre chasing after their biological parents now, cause they want answers and closure so theyre after them.

aanyways thats my interpertation.

My Interpretation

wow i really agree with songsinner too... i was thinking it was to do with there family also
