One Month Off Lyrics

Well there were seven years between us
Seems that all my friends were right
That we can’t survive on your bedroom eyes
And a Spanish guitar

When we started this it was paradise
Not just Bethnal green
And it's just not right this waiting game
Making a cuckold of me

I can be as cruel as you
Fighting fire with firewood
I can be as cruel as you
Fighting lies with lies
(If you need time)

And it’s just not like me to lash out
But, enough is enough
Tell me what the others can do
That I cant

Translucent and sun-bleached skin, yeah
When did you get so L.A.?
How can you desert me after
All we’ve been through?

Stuck on a dream that somewhere is better
You’ll be the one missing out

I can be as cruel as you
Fighting fire with firewood
I can be as cruel as you
Fighting lies with lies
(If you need time)

I can be as cruel as you
Fighting fire with firewood
(If you need time)
I can be as cruel as you
Fighting lies with lies
(If you need time, time, time, time, time, time)

I can be as cruel as you
Fighting fire with firewood
I can be as cruel as you
Fighting lies with lies
(If you need time)

I can be as cruel as you
Fighting fire with firewood
(If you need time)
I can be as cruel as you
Fighting lies with lies

I can be as cruel as you
Fighting fire with firewood
I can be as cruel as you
Fighting lies with lies…

'making a cuckold of me' is a line from shakespeare a cuckold is a husband whose wife sleeps with other men. so basically it is about cheating

"this song's about being in love with someone who's younger than you and has not been faithful."

She is 7 years younger than him and their relationship revolves around sex(That we can?t survive on your bedroom eyes) They are waiting for their relationship to get better, she cheats on him and she changes her image for the other guy.

Maybe this is a stretch, but to me, I think the song is kind of a homage to the Shakespearean play: Othello. Here's why:

I the beginning with the 7 year bit, I first it as he was 7 years her Senior. Anyway, the song is about cheating and the Rage of a man when he finds out his girlfriend is cheating. This is much like Othello's rage when he suspects Desdemona's infidelity. The whole song really does parallel the book as far the speak of lies and longing to be elsewhere while their own relationship slowly crumbles. Not to mention the use of the word "cuckold". Several times throughout the play it is used.

And this might be a little bit racey, but, Kele (the lead vocalist of Bloc Party) is of African Decent and he sings about a Caucasian woman ("Tanslucent and sun-bleached skin"). Just a thought.

My Interpretation

@shrimpmeaning328 He's gay bro, also, you should avoid using a non genre-neutral language when talking about music... just saying.

i think maybe his partner's being cheating on him or something, and then he finally gets really angry at them, or at least decides to cheat too! ooooh, sneaky! and they'd been together for seven years. what a shame. it's funny, the album's called initimacy, but a lot of the songs are about the exact opposite. the "that's what you get when you fall in love" route i think...

This song ends too early. I would love it if the closing sound turned into something else awesome.

I'd have to disagree also, i reckon this is one of my favourites on the new album - if not the favourite. It looks like Kele is talking about a relationship he has had, a long one which they had been through lots together but it is as if his partner has been in envy of something else. And yea either she just broke up with him suddenly, or he found out she had been cheating on him.
