You'll find it hiding in shadows
You'll find it hiding in cupboards
It will walk you home safe every night
It will help you remember

If that's the way it is
Then that's the way it is
If that's the way it is
Then that's the way it is
If that's the way it is
Then that's the way it is
If that's the way it is
Then that's the way it is

I still feel you in the taste of cigarettes
What could I ever run to
Just tell me it's tearing you apart
Just tell me you cannot sleep

If that's the way it is
Then that's the way it is
If that's the way it is
Then that's the way it is

And you didn't even notice
When the sky turned blue
And you couldn't tell the difference
Between me and you
And I nearly didn't notice
The gentlest feeling
The gentlest feeling

The gentlest feeling

The gentlest feeling

The gentlest feeling

You are the bluest light
You are the bluest light
You are the bluest light
You are the bluest light
You are the bluest light
You are the bluest light
You are the bluest light
You are the bluest light
You are the bluest light
You are the bluest light
You are the bluest light
You are the bluest light
You are the bluest light
You are the bluest light
You are the bluest light
You are the bluest light

I was discussing this song with my friend and his response absolutely blew me away. He said it was about being addicted to drugs but then he fell in love and she keeps him from going back to drug use. Prepare to be amazed:

Blue light is installed in public toilets in seedy areas so that drug addicts can't see their veins (ref: archive.theargus.co.uk/1999/2/18/198732.html). Verse one relates to addiction, and the "shadows" and "cupboards" being the dark places in the mind where the addiction grows and is found. "It will...every night" relates to the feeling of invincibility that some drugs can give you; ditto for "It will...remember" and the feeling of clarity.

Verse two is about a lover no longer at hand; "What could I ever run to?" is the narrator's pathetic plea that drugs were the only possible substitute for the love he has lost. Lines three and four are ambiguous; either, as conventionally assumed, they are about the lovers having been parted and as such being torn apart and unable to sleep; or the lover is also addicted and the drugs are wrenching her body apart and stopping her from sleeping.

"And you didn't even notice..." is about beautiful moments of love that were numbed by drug use. The "And you couldn't tell..." line is often misinterpreted; rather than saying that the lover couldn't tell the difference between them, the narrator in fact refers to an event (that she "didn't even notice") of the-sky-turning-blue-and-one-not-being-able-to-tell-the-difference-between-them (I hope this is clear).

The final repeated line ("You are the bluest light") is a sober realisation that her love is the only thing that will stop his addiction. She acts as the blue light hiding his veins from view; the light that prevents him from reentering the dark "shadows" and "cupboards" of his mind.

so, this song means alot to me. In my eyes, I see this song as a break up, a break up in whitch you can't stop thinking about your loved one. The lonlieness and the remembrance you feel is always with you "You'll find it hiding in shadows You'll find it hiding in cupboards It will walk you home safe every night It will help you remember" memories of that person are always with you. "that's the way it is" is saying, well we broke up, there's nothing I can do about it now. They miss a person so much, that all they can think about is them. The bluest light to me, is just everything that reminds the person of their lost love. Everything consists of the blue light, from the way they felt, the way they made you feel, the way they kissed you, to their faovrite color. The bluest light is is the light that follows you everywhere, the light that is everything you have always wanted. The light that helps you remember them, it's a mixture of emotions. fucking gorgeous songgg. alright? PAYCE.

i think thres 2 main meaning options, and were mentioned before. one is the "drugs". the second is the wavelenght. well . .. both options were great.. i dont know whats the certain one . .. but im close from the second theory . . wavelenght . . after study this physics therms i think that meaning its amazing . .. to me this is the smartest way to describe a fall in love... my opinion is:

"You'll find it hiding in shadows You'll find it hiding in cupboards It will walk you home safe every night It will help you remember"

i think thats one sensation and its relationed with a recent sepparate lovers. the sensation which make u feel that even they´re sepparate, they´re together. the sensation thats hiding in every shadow. the sensation which will walk u home safe. the sensation that will help u remember.

"If that's way it is Then that's the way it is"

what can i say about this? . . everybody knows whats the meaning . . if thats the way it is then thats the way it is. i mean: an unbreakable love is not an unbreakable relationship.

"I still feel you and the taste of cigarettes What could I ever run to Just tell me it's tearing you apart Just tell me you cannot sleep"

this is just the "guy" feelings about her... its impossible for him to forget her . .. maybe the cigarette refers the moment after sex . .. or meybe its just one habit of his lover .. even if he dont smoke.. he remember the taste . .. and the last two lines are the guy wishes . .. he wish that the girl its thinking the same... thats the hope of a man who loves in vane.

the rest of the song i think its just the metaphorical things which separated them.

and the bluest light . .. i think the translation is: "You are the closest thing" ... this is what it mekes me feel.... i felt in love 8 years ago . .. i dont see her about 3 years... but shes still being the bluest light in my life . .. its around me.. its with me... its just me

sorry about my english... im from spain.. peace!

I think this song is about being reluctant to fall in love, but finding happiness when you do.

I could well be totally wrong here, but I think it's a referance to blueshift, as Bloc Party are a pretty intelligent band. Blue has the longest (it could also be shortest though) wavelength in a beam of light, and when galaxies are moving away from us they seem red because of how fast they're moving. However, when they're coming towards us they look blue, because the light refacts that way (I can't remember why, and GCSE physics was only last year...). So it could be saying that this person's coming back to them.

While I'm at it - you and the taste of cigerettes, miss either really badly when they're gone.

i think this song is ambiguous ( that spellt right?!?) bcoz i think you can look at it in a positive way, and you're happy about the way somebody is you're bluest light, or a sad way, because if you love somebody and you'll never be with them, they're your bluest light, but they'll never feel the same.

found this through the oc :) amazing song!!!

to me its about how there was this amazing relationship, and he loved her, but nearly didnt notice, then just as he was realising he loved her she broke up with him, and he cant bear the thought of her out there without him... he wants her to tell him its at least tearing her apart, that she cannot sleep... he wants to know he meant something to her. he's trying to tell her to come back, because love will walk her home safe every night, but loneliness wont.

and he still loves her... she's still the bluest light.

what could i ever run to??

There is a YouTube video of the band performing this at Bristol Academy and in the description of the video, the user goes to talk about how he and his friend think the song is about drug addiction. I'll just copy and paste what he said...

The Night We Met
Lord Huron
This is a hauntingly beautiful song about introspection, specifically about looking back at a relationship that started bad and ended so poorly, that the narrator wants to go back to the very beginning and tell himself to not even travel down that road. I believe that the relationship started poorly because of the lines: "Take me back to the night we met:When the night was full of terrors: And your eyes were filled with tears: When you had not touched me yet" So, the first night was not a great start, but the narrator pursued the relationship and eventually both overcame the rough start to fall in love with each other: "I had all and then most of you" Like many relationships that turn sour, it was not a quick decline, but a gradual one where the narrator and their partner fall out of love and gradually grow apart "Some and now none of you" Losing someone who was once everything in your world, who you could confide in, tell your secrets to, share all the most intimate parts of your life, to being strangers with that person is probably one of the most painful experiences a person can go through. So Painful, the narrator wants to go back in time and tell himself to not even pursue the relationship. This was the perfect song for "13 Reasons Why"

Son Şansın - Şarkı Sözleri
Hayalperest
This song seemingly tackles the methods of deception those who manipulate others use to get victims to follow their demands, as well as diverting attention away from important issues. They'll also use it as a means to convince people to hate or kill others by pretending acts of terrorism were committed by the enemy when the acts themselves were done by the masters of control to promote discrimination and hate. It also reinforces the idea that these manipulative forces operate in various locations, infiltrating everyday life without detection, and propagate any and everywhere. In general, it highlights the danger of hidden agendas, manipulation, and distraction, serving as a critique of those who exploit chaos and confusion to control and gain power, depicting a cautionary tale against falling into their traps. It encourages us to question the narratives presented to us and remain vigilant against manipulation in various parts of society.

Cajun Girl
Little Feat
Overall about difficult moments of disappointment and vulnerability. Having hope and longing, while remaining optimistic for the future. Encourages the belief that with each new morning there is a chance for things to improve. The chorus offers a glimmer of optimism and a chance at a resolution and redemption in the future. Captures the rollercoaster of emotions of feeling lost while loving someone who is not there for you, feeling let down and abandoned while waiting for a lover. Lost with no direction, "Now I'm up in the air with the rain in my hair, Nowhere to go, I can go anywhere" The bridge shows signs of longing and a plea for companionship. The Lyrics express a desire for authentic connection and the importance of Loving someone just as they are. "Just in passing, I'm not asking. That you be anyone but you”

Amazing
Ed Sheeran
Ed Sheeran tells a story of unsuccessfully trying to feel “Amazing.” This track is about the being weighed down by emotional stress despite valiant attempts to find some positivity in the situation. This track was written by Ed Sheeran from the perspective of his friend. From the track, we see this person fall deeper into the negative thoughts and slide further down the path of mental torment with every lyric.
