Automatic Eyes Lyrics
Staring at the mirror through your hair
You can't see everything that you did to me
With your automatic eyes
Five years disappeared
FIve years disappeared that night
Do you want me to stay?
Do you want me to go?
Do you think I recognize
The look on your face
When you think that I know?
Blinded as the shades draw closed
Time's up for us
Would you want me to go
If you knew what I know?
If you knew what I know
Staring at the wall above the bed
I can't sleep with all the secrets that you keep
With your automatic eyes
Five years disappeared
FIve years disappeared that night
Do you want me to stay?
Do you want me to go?
Do you think I recognize
The look on your face
When you think that I know?
Blinded as the shades draw closed
Time's up for us
Would you want me to go
If you knew what I know?
If you knew what I know
Do you want me to stay?
Do you want me to go?
Do you think I recognize
The look on your face
When you think that I know?

Definitely my favourite off Fast Times.
I think this is about a girl cheating on him. Maybe they've been going out for five years and that all disappeared on the night he found out?
Just a guess. Don't bite my head off.
William really let go with the lyrics in this album. Everything is so personal, I feel like I'm listening to secrets.
i feel the exact opposite, actually. i think this is by far their weakest album lyrically and is also their least original material. this song, though ... i'm not sure how i feel. although it's a tad repatitious, i feel like the message he's relaying is so beautiful and this is one of the few songs that isn't expressed with stereotypes or cliches. kudos to this song. and coppertone and after the last midtown show.
i agree with you. the lyrics in this albums are so corny and overused but there are some hidden gems like sodium, coppertone, automatic eyes and i like paper chase kinda. Their really old stuff ( when they were just The academy is the best imo)
this whole album is about love and friendship...the high school theme makes it obvious...this is they way people feel in these years of their lives...lyricially its pretty weak, but anyone can relate to at least one song, if not the whole album, if you have ever been in love or had friendships that have failed, then you can def relate
This is my favorite song off the entire album
This is my favorite song off the entire album
well, the album is a lot different from Santi, obviously. and yeah its about the high school thing. the whole album is about having a good time is your teenage years, having great friends and falling in and out of love. there's nothing wrong with that, even if it is a bit cliche.
william said in an interview that this was about one of mike carden's relationships. i believe he said "mike our guitar player", so i assume he didn't mean michael guy.
This one isn't as immediately obvious as some of the rest, but I guess I think it's just another story of young love gone wrong, perhaps the breakup that really caused you to grow up more emotionally, which is what the "five years disappeared that night" bit is all about.
