This Cold Black

About two weeks before this album came out there was a school slashing (the kid used swords) in South Africa and the kid supposedly wore a Slipknot mask. Which makes the lyrics "Let my weapons be your children" very fitting.

in my humble opinion it is about war veterans. A vast majority are coming back with mental scars and very disillusioned with the government, and the concept of the rich man's war breaking the poor man's back. Recruiters "seduce" the young and glorify the idea of war, but almost always ends the same way.(Distortion sufficient?) (Even now they still create me) People are still being sent over to fight

(Post traumatic war machines...Pessimist still dont believe) This could certainly have a double meaning, but I think that alot of the trauma of returning is trying to tell people what its like and they have no clue as to what you mean. You cannot understand the hell that combat is unless you lived it. And alot of "pessimists" just dismiss post traumatic disorder as BS. Which unfortunately as we've seen in Vietnam vets, can cause suicide and homicide among many other issues (My ghost have found their way back home, I have every right to kill my own)

Universal Logic on. Are you South African? I unfortunately live in this shit hole of a country. And Jesus Christ. When that kid killed the other kid. Poor Slipknot got the fucking blame and there were labelled a satanic band! Although it did make them more famous here. Every metal supporter went nuts and defended Slipknot. And I'm an english teacher and the day after the incident I rocked up at school wearing a Slipknot shirt. Much to the principle's disgust. He he he. And now my narrow minded students fear them.

It sounds like he alternates between 'sedition' and 'seducer' or maybe just all 'sedition' (It was make more sense, seeing as this is a very political album, and what sedition is.)

well your all entitled to your opinion but Corry Tailer intended a different meaning. And these are his words. t calls people to the carpet on all types of shit. And I don't think people are doing that anymore, and if they are, its in such a weak way. Its like "yeah we know that you're angry, but give me a fucking reason and you better make it interesting!"

not sure what the song means but I know what you mean about South Africa, even the people (metalheads) who hated slipknot defended them.

This song is fucking bitching!!!!!!!! kicks ass!!!! I take it as being against people trying to force their pathetic rules and views onto others (politicians, religious pricks you name it)anyone who tries to tell you what to do to their own benefit , distorting reality enough to seduce you. To me it just screams out you are right!! not those muthafuckas who try to tell you how to think!! And also about how they try to stop you from thinking against them cause when you ask them deeply why they want "that" they cant really answer you. there are several lines that sound like they are screaming at these people. I believe the other interpretations here really add up to what the song transmitted me at first, that one about the war veterans and the one about the kid slashing the other one were really cool readings of those particular lines!! So thanks !..! ( that was meant to be devil horns)

This song is about the world,thus: this cold black(black is the representation of the turmoil that the world faces,or the dark sides of this world,like WARS,CORRUPTI0N,AND A WHOLE LOT OF BULLSHIT.) . In terms of lyrical talent,slipknot has matured,but still less impressive. The guitar riffs and joey's blast beats still a big O.K. I love slipknot,but I hate those people who over rate them,slipknot is a great band,but not the best. Joey is good,but he can't be great and he can't be the best.
