The Saddest Song in the World Lyrics

I wake up, and you're gone
The TV's still on
And I sit, and I watch, another rerun
She is left, all alone, her lover's gone to sea
And I can't, help but feel, that she is just like me

And I gave, all I could, but it wasn't good enough
And you said that you would be here before I woke up
Now you're gone

I don't, know why, my heart still beats
When I, can't feel, anything

'Cause I gave, all I could, but it wasn't good enough
And you said that you would be here before I woke up
Now you're gone

Away
Now you're gone
Away

Why don't you take me, with you
Come take, me, with you
Come and take, me, with, you
Come and take, me, with you

'Cause I gave, all I could, but it wasn't good enough
And you say that you would be here before I woke up
Now you're gone

Oh Oh Ohhwoah, (repeat)

I am loving this song right now. I think the meaning is pretty self explanatory. She woke up alone and she feels like she is dead inside and she felt like she could never give enough to him to make things work.

This might be reading too much into it but I think she wass waiting for a guy who she has a failing relationship with to come see her before he left for a trip or moved away, and he doesn't bother coming at all. She tries occupying herself with tv but all she can think about was that she wasn't enough for him because he didn't come.

I'm sure the song is about losing a romantic partner but it always reminds me of my Mom and her death due to cancer.

"And I gave, all I could, but it wasn't good enough And you said that you would be here before I woke up Now you're gone"

I was too young to give enough to her even though I did give what I could.

" Why don't you take me, with you" reminds me of how I felt when I "lost" her.
