If only it were true
I'd go with you
If only it were true

I'd say I do

And all the things that we do
I could face today
And now, you love me too
If only it were true

My head is all full of dreams
It's nothin' new
But maybe dreamin' is all
A man can do

So, don't come callin' for me
'Cause, baby, my dream ain't through
And when, when I've had enough
Oh, well then I'll die in dreams of you

So, don't come callin' for me
'Cause, baby, my dream ain't through
And when, when I've had enough
Oh, well then I'll die in dreams of you

    My Interpretation

he dreams of marrying this girl, there would be nothing better. but he knows in reality that it's not gonna happen, so he'll just keep dreaming of her.

    great closer

If only it was true I’d go with you If only it was true I’d say, "I do"

And all the things that we do I could face the day And all the long night too If only it was true

My head is all full of dreams It's nothing new But, baby, dreaming is all a man can do

So don’t come calling for me Cause, baby, my dream ain’t through And when, when I’ve had enough Oh, then I’ll die in dreams of you

So don’t come calling for me Cause, baby, my dream ain’t through And when, when I’ve had enough Oh, then I’ll die in dreams of you

    My Opinion

There's something calmly magnificent about this track (and much of this record to be honest). The distant and muddy guitars, Hamilton's heartbroken crooning, the lyrics... It all comes together for me on this song.

I think it describes a too good to be true situation where everything seemed perfect for a time but then the main character realizes that it is not what he should do after all. I don't think it only works for a failed or platonic relationship, the song could be about any major life decision. And escapism of course with "baby, dreamin' is all a man can do".

It's a painfully honest and beautiful song that I'll keep coming back to for a long-long time.
