In my mind, they've already surpassed the "awesomeness" phase, and are now extraordinary and unbelievable. Jars of Clay is one of my all time favorite groups for their music and their lyrics. I loved this song after hearing it the first time on their website, and I can't wait to hear what new amazing songs they create with this next CD!
This song is incredible! It's video-game tunes are adorable, the melodies of the song so happy, the lyrics so witty..I can't get enough of this!
I'm not sure who this song is directed to but in my perspective it sounds like it's a song about a couple who know they need each other so much: "Cause the rockets we're in get so cold and I miss your skin"
But they know they can't be together, whatever the reason: "I’m a pail on your boat with slow leaks"
And yet they still know how much they complete each other: "You’re my shirt, I an arm...You’re the L and the V, I’m the O and the E"
And of course, my favorite.. "I’m the tick, you’re the bomb" So witty! They fit for each other perfectly, but they're the grand recipe for disaster.

Also, just look at the EP Cover sleeve and you see the whole picture of this song there! We are ONLY God's conduit to get His message and LOVE to each other and the dying & lost world!

I really love this song. I love the imagery of "kite strings tangled in my trees all wrapped up." Normally having a tangled kite is a bad thing, but the point here is that even though relationships can be messy, the writer would rather work through those entanglements than be alone. Being attached to someone means the denial of your own independence--instead of being free like a kite, you're tangled up in someone else's needs and desires. But most of the time we'd rather be that way than be alone. Love the complexity of those lyrics.
I can't really tell if these lyrics are about God or not. In some parts it seems like it could be, but in others it seems like it's about a girl(I think the main singer is married).If anyone knows something I don't it'd be sweet if I could learn some trivia. This song IS pretty awesome. I've liked Jars for a long time but I've only recently been this interrested in them. This album sounds great.

As for a friend, I think that you can have love for a brother or sister in Christ, or just any friend at all, and want to help them out. But you can only help them if they're willing to share their troubles. However, this last interpretation is stretching it, especially because of the last line (as mentioned above). Anyway, however you take it, the song is brilliant. Sorry this got kind of long, I'm awful at writing concisely! I know there weren't any solid facts about the band's opninion on the song itself, but hopefully this was helpful anyway. :)

i absolutely love this song but the meaning somewhat confuses me. After much thought i've come to two possible conclusions:
1) The song is about a girl 'Cause the rockets we're in, get so cold and I miss your skin --and/or-- 2) Some parts are God talking to His people... If you want my love, well you've got to get close to me If you need my love, well you've got to get closer to me ~its like God saying that you have to keep getting closer and closer to Him

I think this is Him saying that "no, I want to help you and know you and be closer to you." That last line does seem to imply a person to God though. This is an awesome song. The album "A Long Fall Back To Earth" is their best non-Christmas album ever. Their "Christmas Songs" album is my favorite Jars album. The "Love Came Down" tour was the best concert I've ever gone to. Jars of Clay have become my favorite band. I can't wait to see them perform live on August 09, 2009.
