There Was Another Time in My Life Lyrics
I know that I've come a long way
My heart's had it in the right place
But sometimes I pass hard to face
And I know you
[Chorus]
There was another time in my life
There was another time in my life
There was another time in my life
Before I knew you
Slept the highlands and waves
I wondered if I could be soft
But I have emerged scathed
Because I know you
[Chorus]
Before I knew you
Before I could see
That you could take all my troubles from me
Before I knew you
I was so cold
[Chorus: x2]
I wasn't complete
My heart's had it in the right place
But sometimes I pass hard to face
And I know you
There was another time in my life
There was another time in my life
There was another time in my life
Before I knew you
I wondered if I could be soft
But I have emerged scathed
Because I know you
Before I could see
That you could take all my troubles from me
Before I knew you
I was so cold

I think this song means that before when he wasn't a Christian he was incomplete like the song says. Now that he was wondering if he could be saved he was and got saved and now he feels complete.
I don't hear anything about God in the song but I suppose the "you" could be God. I know He changed my life for the better after 22 years as an atheist. If it's about God than I like the last line because with God's grace I learned forgiveness...true forgiveness where you stop carrying around emotional pain and truly learn to forgive. (ie. You take your power back.) If the song is not about God than I don't like the last long. Nobody is incomplete; rather, nobody is completed by another human being. Others just enhance our life experience (or...

Others just enhance our life experience (or detract from it). I think of my now deceased friend John who died from MD. He added to my life by making me see life differently. He challenged my beliefs (not in God) and he didn't allow me to pity myself in ANY way. (He would always point to his chair whenever I became negative:) I like the song, but know very little about the band, which I'll have to change today...
Stupid me; the band is contemporay Christian! OK, the last line of the song is cool.
