I have heard a decent number of songs by The Notwist, maybe about 15 or 20, and this one is my favorite. When he is saying "someone has sleep for me." maybe he is wondering if somebody is thinking about him, because that's what most people do before they sleep (and as they sleep, even if they don't remember it). "or is it all just letters and poems." Maybe he is writing poems about someone, maybe someone specific or just anyone who happens to be thinking of him, and he is not sure if someone (or that specific person) is really thinking about him.

I think the part that says "someone has sleep for me, or is it all just letters and poems?" is like saying "someone has to think about me before they sleep or when they sleep, someone must be in love with me, right? Or that kind of thing only happens in literature and poetry (in music, in films)?"

So it sounds like he's slept with someone but is staying with this person for the wrong reasons. Then he says
"Someone has [to have] sleep for me or is it all just letters and poems"
I feel like I can relate to this song because my ex and I would lie in bed and be happy just sleeping or lieing. It sounds like he dwells on the content feeling when you're in love which can be related to relaxation/sleep. So he asks, someone has to have sleep for me (love or provide me that feeling) or is it all just paper and words but nothing there.
I'm pretty sure it's "people unite for the wrong reasons," as opposed to "keep the night for the wrong reasons." nevertheless, great song.
