"Pick Up the Phone" as written by Aaron Robin Iii Hall, William Earl Collins, George Jr. Clinton, Glenn La Monte Goins and Sean Kirk Hall....
You know this place,
You know this gloom?
We've been here before.
When life is a loop,
You're in a room without a door.

Pick up the phone and answer me at last.
Today I will step out of your past.

"Trouble that we've come to know will stay with us",
With every step it slowly grows.
Rub off the rust.

Pick up the phone and answer me at last.
Today I will step out of your past.

General CommentI have sort of a strange question perhaps... Noting that the line is evidently quoted anyway... What's behind that "trouble that we've come to know will stay with us"? Anyone knows?

But one way or another... A song I can't get out of my head when I try to fall asleep and I've drunk too much coffee and the room is dark and it's raining outside.

General CommentYeah, definitely agree with all you guys, this song is addictive. I don't know what's behind the "trouble..." line (there's not much info on the notwist around), but my interpretation is that some bad stuff has happened in his past, he's stuffed up, and that he can't shake it - maybe the realtionship has mucked up somewhere and every time they fight, that comes up, it stays.

Anyway, that's what I reckon. Can I ask anyone who reads this to tell me where in Australia I can get The Notwist's CDs! I can't find them anywhere!

General CommentI think "trouble that we've come to know will stay with us" means that obviously later on in time, whatever's been messed up in the relationship isn't going to go away. They may be able to get on as friends after, but it's never going to shake off and they know it.

immi: Your chances of finding a The Notwist CD in AUS which isn't Neon Golden is more or less 0. Neon Golden, however, shouldn't be too much of a problem. Try the big, major CD shops or a site that can deliver overseas.

General CommentHi imii_lou, I managed to pick up Neon Golden and Shrink at a place on Brunswick Street, Fitzroy. Moving house at the moment so I can't actually FIND the CD at the moment, but it was in the main shopping bit, near a juice bar (okay, that probably doesn't narrow it down too much when it comes to Brunswick Street). Borders (@ the Jam Factory) South Yarra also had them both - I was most pleasantly surprised.

General CommentMaybe its because of where Im at in my life right now but I think the song could be related to a past love.

The ex-lover should call the other back bringing their relationship out of the past and into the present.
