I have heard a decent number of songs by The Notwist, maybe about 15 or 20, and this one is my favorite.
When he is saying "someone has sleep for me." maybe he is wondering if somebody is thinking about him, because that's what most people do before they sleep (and as they sleep, even if they don't remember it).
"or is it all just letters and poems." Maybe he is writing poems about someone, maybe someone specific or just anyone who happens to be thinking of him, and he is not sure if someone (or that specific person) is really thinking about him.
