Over and Out Lyrics
"Over and out," she said from a hospital bed
"For what it's worth, it doesn't hurt, don't cry"
"Over and out," he said with a .45 to his head
"The war has taken everything from me, it's all I see, so..."
Run for cover as fast as you can
Where fighters are lovers, enemies are friends
And pens and knives apologize for leaving you tonight
Leaving you tonight
"Over and out," he sighed. "It seems I've run out of time
Please tell my wife I loved her more than life itself"
"Over and out," she sang as the telephone rang
"There's no pain, no answering no more, no"
So run for cover as fast as you can
Where fighters are lovers, enemies are friends
And pens and knives apologize for leaving you
Run for cover and you'll find us there
To take on the anguish, make it disappear
When hand grenades and napalm flames are leaving you tonight
Let this candle burn 'til you get home
Never forget your face, never lose hope
Tonight
Run for cover as fast as you can
Where fighters are lovers, enemies are friends
And pens and knives apologize for leaving you
Run for cover and you'll find us there (over and out)
To take on the anger, make it disappear (over and out)
When razorblades were softly serenading you
"For what it's worth, it doesn't hurt, don't cry"
"Over and out," he said with a .45 to his head
"The war has taken everything from me, it's all I see, so..."
Where fighters are lovers, enemies are friends
And pens and knives apologize for leaving you tonight
Leaving you tonight

This song is about suicide. If you look in the album booklet under the lyrics for this song you will see the number to a suicide hotline.
A lot of people have been saying Alkaline Trio have changed, and they have but its for the better. They use to sing alot about relationships. It was like seeing the same song from album to album. Now they are singing about things that matter.
I love them, This song makes me cry everytime I hear it, It just brings up old memories.
matt skiba said this in an interview:
"It's about four different people. I had a family member who came back from World War II that killed himself. He slept with a .45 under his pillow for many years and then finally used it against himself. He just couldn't deal with the horrors that he had witnessed and had a part in. Both of my parents were in Vietnam. You come back from war carrying an incredible amount of baggage and guilt, I don't even pretend to understand, but I just hear about it. There are people in my life, like my grandmother, which one of those verses in that song refers to, that went out a happy woman - she had her struggles and painful things that she went through, but she died a happy woman with a lot of people that loved her. There are references to lots of people that I know and even myself at one point in the song."
Well done on the lyrics mate.
This song to me is about various people saying goodbye to this world.Their final bid farewell so to speak.
its some what of a love story about war a girl waiting for her husband to come back, but hes already died. can really be tied into anything of the sorts really, powerful song
This song is awesome..
the great song from the agony and irony album. matt sing it so impressive. i think this song about soldier that died during duty in Iraq. maybe similar story like song from Dropkick Murphys "last letter home".
"over and out of it for one more plane ride out" -smoke
The acoustic version of this is simply amazing, it brought tears to my eyes. You can really feel all of the emotion, all the depression, and hopelessness. I listened to it with another hardcore trio fan, and seriously, we almost cried...
where can i find this acustic version. i heard it a few days ago and i loved it!

Beth, you're not wrong, but if you read what phrasethatpays posted, you'll see that we've already established that this song is about suicide. but with a deeper meaning than it just being about suicide as a whole,
it's a sad song, I love the acoustic version best, but both versions are solid. gotta love Alkaline Trio.
