Pollywog in a Bog Lyrics
In the puddle by the trail it flips its tiny tail
Just like a great big whale but smaller than a snail
It's a pollywog in a bog
Swims under soggy logs
One day he'll be a frog
Pollywog in a bog
Overhead a cedar tree gives the shade he needs
Munching while he feeds on lily pads and weeds
Knows not where he's from
Or how his life had begun
He's not the only one
And soon he'll breathe through lungs
It's hard to believe
With the arms you'll receive
You'll life your head above the water and breathe
Gills shrink away and may there come a day
When you reach the shore with a whole world to explore
Ribbit ribbit a tadpole exhibit
It's a transformation no one can inhibit
Amphibian change may seem strange
Take them gills and the tail and they all rearrange
Out come the legs for the jump! jump!
Hope to the top of the stump! stump!
Out come the legs for the jump! jump!
Hope to the top of the stump! stump!
Where the mud is deep frost will soon creep
And without a peep a frog is fast asleep
It was a pollywog in a bog
Swam under soggy logs
In the morning fog
Pollywog in a bog.
Just like a great big whale but smaller than a snail
Swims under soggy logs
One day he'll be a frog
Pollywog in a bog
Munching while he feeds on lily pads and weeds
Or how his life had begun
He's not the only one
And soon he'll breathe through lungs
With the arms you'll receive
You'll life your head above the water and breathe
Gills shrink away and may there come a day
When you reach the shore with a whole world to explore
It's a transformation no one can inhibit
Amphibian change may seem strange
Take them gills and the tail and they all rearrange
Hope to the top of the stump! stump!
Out come the legs for the jump! jump!
Hope to the top of the stump! stump!
And without a peep a frog is fast asleep
Swam under soggy logs
In the morning fog
Pollywog in a bog.

This is my favorite song from Snacktime.
Jim and Ed's voices contrast so beautifully (and hilariously). Don't you think so, GD?
^ Me? To be honest, I hadn't really thought about that (the contrast in voices). But now that you mention it, yeah, the transition from Jim's earnest part to Ed's reggae thing is pretty amusing!
By the way, this isn't really about frogs. It was inspired by Jim's seeing his daughter on an ultrasound when she was still little enough to look like a pollywog.
Damn that's cute.
I had thought it might be a metaphor but it never occurred to me how it might link together a little tadpole to a little person.

Oh. And please forgive my stutter. :)

It's a happy kid's song. I told my children that one of the singers of the band was on crack. "What's crack, daddy?" one asked.
I pulled out my wife's powderbox and told them "Your mother is a crackwhore and you two were both conceived during her greatest trip ever, I believe a homeless guy in a dark alley is your true biological father!"
A big frown...
"Just kidding, guys!!! Who wants to go to the pizza hut?"
Ofcourse, they didn't understand it so I'll save the story for when they are old enough to hate their dead mother even more.
As shown in the music video, Andrew Creeggan actually did play the steel drums on this track. It gives me hope that the band might include Page in another album someday.
