The King Is Dead Lyrics

We danced like new years eve, we,
We danced from sheer relief, whoa oh
Everything must change

The people that you projected as …
Were nothing of the sort
Sold themselves short
Put down the champagne
No toast to the legacy (no way)
And all the propaganda of prosperity
That’s what a machine does
And the don’t need therapy
You turned us into a nation of haters
Far right appeaser
Believer in whatever get you leader
Dog whistle through the speakers
see who bites it
Noticed a hell of a lot of people liked it
An ethical choice is simpler if you price it
Conquer by dividing
that’s why you admired him
Unlessed pushed, we would never have retired him
Fucking pirate, history will damn him
Once it seemed like nothing could damage him

Crook, you got your arse played in Mandarin

Finally the King is Dead, they cried off with his head
Everything must change, Everything must change
We danced like New Year's Eve
We danced from relief
Everything must change
Nothing stays the same oh, Nothing stays the same oh
Nothing stays the same oh

Yeah
Cats I know are feeling this like the rapture
I can tell who this mood is failing to capture
It’s like somebody finally did light that match up
And burn down the parliament, learned from the argument
Can’t be non-partisan, when you’re an artist
And you put your heart in it, and that’s not even the half of it
Like my man said, we’re talking butter and bread
Better if his words were never uttered again
Mostly vindictive, who could have predicted
Just a few tax breaks to keep us all addicted
The dickhead dictator leader imitator
Made me feel immature when I said “I hate ya”
Did you read the paper the day after and hear the laughter?
I’ll read it to you, it starts with M McKew and ends with you
No roar for you from the people on your ship that you used to call crew
Huh! That’s typical, now I guess it’s difficult
For the type of person who only thinks of individual
No residual, you’ll see our resilience
Take your bat and ball and head for the pavilion
Finally the king is dead we cried off with his head
Everything must change
Everything must change
We danced like New Year's Eve
We danced from relief
Everything must change
Nothing stays the same
Nothing stays the same oh
Nothing stays the same oh

We danced like New Year's Eve
We danced from sheer relief oh
Everything must change

Just promise me this, no rose petal glasses
Quickly confine him to part of the past
Just promise me this, no rose petal glasses
Quickly confine him to part of the past

Finally the king is dead we cried off with his head
Everything must change
Everything must change
We danced like New Year's Eve
We danced from relief
Everything must change
Nothing stays the same
Nothing stays the same

Finally the king is dead we cried off with his head
Everything must change
Everything must change
We danced like New Year's Eve
We danced from relief
Everything must change
Nothing stays the same
Nothing stays the same oh
Nothing stays the same oh
Nothing stays the same oh
Nothing stays the same oh
Woah-oh
Everything must change

Is this song all about voting John Howard out?

Cover art for The King Is Dead lyrics by Herd, The

This is an amazing song that descibes many feelings of disgust and hatred felt by many australians towards past prime minister john howard and his party. the music video directed by Gavain Browne displays many images from john Howard's time in power (e.g. wheat, oil on bread, etc).

favourite lines from this song for me are

"An ethical choice is simpler if you price it"

"You turned us into a nation of haters Far right appeaser Believer in whatever get you leader"

i didn't think any artwork or song could capture my resentment towards Howard's government but this song does.

Everything must change. i hope Rudd is up to it

I don't think this song is about John Howard... or Kevin Rudd. I think its about the bullshit all political leaders throw out. trying to compare our current PM and saying he is better/worse than our last one is kinda silly. besides Kevin Rudd is handing out th tax breaks not johnny. Kevin Rudd hasn't changed anything and proabaly won't and neither will someone after him. It's about us as a people waking up to ourselves and ceasing to be selfish and greedy, the love of money is the root of all evil.

except youre wrong.. it is about howard

i thought it was "we cut off with his head" ... iuno the herd(Y)

This is some of The Herd's most amateurish rubbish yet. The Aussie hiphop scene is like going back to high school.

As much as I like The Herd, bashing on Howard is as unfair as it is unoriginal. The Howard/Costello government deserves this countries gratitute. The Herd should put their lyrical abilities to better use, and leave Howard bashing to pretentious arts students with beards and Che Guevara T-shirts

The herd tell it how it is, why write a song that doesnt interest you. Dirty libs deserve what comes to them. urthboys a mad kunt used to live down my road
