All Over Town Lyrics

Dear sir, did I see you fleeting?
I care for your heart,
But not for it beating.
You try to put a frown on me,
Fell me down.
You're spreading bad things about me,
All over town,
But I'll show no frown.

Because all over town,
Yes, all over town,
There are people who would,
Undermine you if they could,
Don't let them in.

What do you see when you see me sir?
The very same thing that makes you bitter,
See you say all these outrageous things,
That's what you do,
Yes, but you're no poet man,
You just want everyone looking at you,
So I'll show no frown.

Because all over town,
Yes, all over this town,
There are people who would,
Undermine you if they could,
Don't let them in.

Oh, all over town.
Yes, all over this town.
There are people who would,
Undermine me if they could,
Won't let them in.

i love this song, the tune is so laid back so that it fits in with what i imagine the meaning is. it seems to me that its about like the others have said not letting people get to you, its like their saying it will just give them the satisfaction that they dont deserve and the tune echos this in being laid care and nonchalant. i love it. the kooks are just amazing artists and who can resist the accents :)

Amazing song. Really speaks to me. I think its about shielding yourself from people because they could end up hurting you in the long run.

I don't know why...but this song could have been written for Simon Amstell who likes to pick on the Kooks on every occasion xD

Really like the song though. Love the guitar.

This song is about not letting rumors and hurtful comments get to you, something that happens often in the music business. As long as your sure of yourself, and you know why you're doing what you're doing, nobody can undermine you.

I agree. I think the lines "Yes, but you're no poet man, You just want everyone looking at you" could describe a couple different people, including maybe someone who only listens to music of a certain genre for an image, people who judge and love to argue even w/o logic, or people who sign bands that are generic because they're mostly popular and are quick to judge. Correct me if I'm wrong on the last one, I don't know anything about that. The chorus basically means everyone is ready to challenge you, to say you're not good enough, to be opinionated on you. And there will always be those people under most circumstances. Is there a band out there that no one hates, that everyone has given a change to hear? nope. So don't take it too much to heart. Also same idea with say- other things people do/are/etc. Good song.

I understood this as a song about Alex Turner since him and Luke quarrel nonstop. Also he is attacking this guy's talent by saying "you're no poet man, just want everyone looking at you", which could be a complete reference to Alex. Though it is a song in broader terms of not letting people's attitudes or what they say affect you.

i love this song! Its so subtle and laid back but it sticks in your head! When I heard it i had a pretty immediate thought that it was about Alex Turner. As it says your no poet man you just want everyone lokking at you.... alex turner is often to referred to as a poet in his own right..it makes sense. But overall I think this song is about not worrying about what other people say and just getting through it. Dont focus on the ones bringing you down, treasure the ones who treasure you, keep them close, and sooner all later all will be forgoten.

I think this song is about Alex and Luke but every time I hear it all I think about is one of the teachers at my school who always puts you down for everything and my school in general. Like how people judge you and undermine you. Another reason it could be a school teacher is that he says "Dear Sir". I love this song its amazing.
