Better Off Alone Lyrics
I was naive not to let you go
When the time was right
I was a fool living in a dream
That I thought could last
But I know that you
Will try to prove me wrong
But it's what I've got to do
I think you're mistaken
I'm sorry to say
I'm really just a loser
Who's getting in your way
I think you've forgotten
All of your plans
See you never meant to be here
And I think you should know
You're better off alone
And it's clear to me
That everything has changed
Cuz nothing that we do feels
The same any more
And I'll admit
I'll take the blame
Maybe we just moved too fast
And how could expect
Something like this to last
And I know that you will try
And prove me wrong
But it's what I gotta do
I think you're mistaken
I'm sorry to say
I'm really just a loser
Who's getting in your way
I think you've forgotten
All of your plans
See you never meant to be here
And I think you should know
You're better off alone
You and I, we were standing
Watching us fall apart
So let me go and move along
I think you're mistaken
I'm sorry to say
I'm really just a loser
Who's getting in your way
I think you've forgotten
All of your plans
See I never meant to be here
And I think you should know
You're better off alone
Alone, alone, alone, alone, alone
Alone, alone, alone, alone, alone
Alone, alone, alone, alone, alone
Oh, you're better off alone
I think you're mistaken
I'm sorry to say
I'm really just a loser
You're better off alone
Better off alone
When the time was right
I was a fool living in a dream

Oh wow. I feel she's describing me. I'm really starting to feel like this.. This woman is incredible, I've only just heard her.
wow. i've gotta admit, this feeling really sucks, but it's nice to know that i'm not the only one who feels this way sometimes...
I've always thought that this song was more like, hmm, ya know, this ship has really gone downhill and I don't think we belong together anymore. But my boyfriend won't ever be able to see it this way, so I better put it into words that he'll accept. I know...
I think you're mistaken, I'm sorry to say I'm really just a loser who's getting in your way
(By saying this she points out that she is in the way of what he could be, and that she's sorry she has to point this out.)
I think you've forgotten all of your plans You see you never meant to be here
(She's reminding him of what he had planned to do, trying to show him what he could do and what he had thought was the awesome life.)
And I think you should know, You're better off alone.
(This could be taken two ways. To the boyfriend (who I am assuming is bigheaded and would take this this way) that she sucks and he would be better off without her. To Marie it may mean that she worded this so that he'd leave because he really is better off alone without a girlfriend to be a "loser who's getting in his way." He is the Cormac McLaggen/Gilderoy Lockhart/Victor Krum of the world. Totally hot, always thinks he's right, and maybe a bit pompous with good intentions underneath.)
I could totally be wrong here, and I probably am, but I've always seen it this way, since I first heard it. Thank you for listening to my two cents worth.
Love this song so much...I feel this way a lot of times...
I think it perfectly captures that feeling of "if you really love someone, you'll love them enough to let go."
Because if you love someone, you'll want what's best for them. You'll do whatever it takes to help them realize their full potential. So if you know you're the only thing holding your loved one down, then you'll take a step back and let yourself fade into their memories.
