Beauty in Walking Away Lyrics
A light shines off
In the distance
A pale flickering glow
How many times
Do I have to dream
That I could be there
The time is here
And she won't be
Waiting for me
To find the easy way out
I've lost count of the days
That were wasted
There's an answer
In the sound of a train
There is wisdom
Past the bridge on the bay
There's a lifetime
Through the fog
In the rain
There's a beauty
In walking away
I float on the streets
That are empty
Take the path
That the wind only knows
Tonight is the last time
That I'll ever be here
There's an answer
In the sound of a train
There is wisdom
Past the bridge on the bay
There's a lifetime
Through the fog
In the rain
There's a beauty
In walking away
It's never quite simple
It's never that safe
It never seems perfect
Until it's too late
It's never the right time
To find a new way
There's an answer
In the sound of a train
There is wisdom
Past the bridge on the bay
There's a lifetime
Through the fog
In the rain
There's a beauty
In walking away
In the distance
A pale flickering glow
How many times
Do I have to dream
That I could be there
The time is here
And she won't be
Waiting for me
To find the easy way out
I've lost count of the days
That were wasted
In the sound of a train
There is wisdom
Past the bridge on the bay
There's a lifetime
Through the fog
In the rain
There's a beauty
In walking away
That are empty
Take the path
That the wind only knows
Tonight is the last time
That I'll ever be here
In the sound of a train
There is wisdom
Past the bridge on the bay
There's a lifetime
Through the fog
In the rain
There's a beauty
In walking away
It's never that safe
It never seems perfect
Until it's too late
It's never the right time
To find a new way
In the sound of a train
There is wisdom
Past the bridge on the bay
There's a lifetime
Through the fog
In the rain
There's a beauty
In walking away

Basically this song is all about accepting reality. In a sense that it's not always "depressing" or "frustrating" to let someone go and just move on with his/her life. If it's not meant to be then just walk away. From the song itself "There's a beauty in walking away."
Just my two cents.
First verse definately rings of F. Scott Fitzgerald's book 'The Great Gatsby'. Donno about the rest...seems kinda random and not about much in particular, lol.
This song is inspired by Marie's life in San Francisco when she was attending Berkeley. She later dropped out after her first year to pursue her dreams. The song tells an important story in her life of whether she could make it as a singer.
She refers to the train (the underground bart?), bridge to the bay (oakland bridge), through the fog (the usual coastal fog in San Francisco). This is definitely a song about her decision to drop out of Berkeley to pursue her dreams because she knows that if she waits any longer her opportunities will vanish.
hmm...this song definitely could be about her time in San Fransisco "tonight is the last time i'll ever be here..."
I like how she leaves the story broad enough that almost anyone can stick their own story in it to match their own situation. It's a very uplifting song that reminds you that not all "bad" situations have to be bad. Good things CAN happen.
I think this is about walking away from somebody or something who has held you captive for a long period of time.
"A light shines off In the distance A pale flickering glow How many times Do I have to dream That I could be there The time is here And she won't be Waiting for me To find the easy way out I've lost count of the days That were wasted"
The light off in the distance represents happiness and freedom.. and how often she longed to achieve it. She knows she needs to stop looking at the "days that were wasted" and focus on the future.
"I float on the streets That are empty Take the path That the wind only knows Tonight is the last time That I'll ever be here"
She knows that the road to happiness won't be easy.. no one knows what the future holds and thats scary. But this is the last time that she is going to remain captive.
"It's never quite simple It's never that safe It never seems perfect Until it's too late It's never the right time To find a new way"
Again she knows that the road to freedom is not going to be easy. Its unpredictable. Even though she has been unhappy for so long at least she knew that it was safe and that it woudl always be the same. Its never going to be a good time to be brave and "walk away"
"There's an answer In the sound of a train There is wisdom Past the bridge on the bay There's a lifetime Through the fog In the rain There's a beauty In walking away "
She knows that something great waits for her. The train and the bridge represent the road she has ahead and the great things that lie beyond the road. Through the fog and the rain again represent hard times to come but she knows that moving on with her life holds beautiful things. "there is beauty in walking away."
