I Am A Book, Torn Lyrics
In the night I'm disappointed with your choice
As I'm right outside your door
And my face is on the floor
And you left me on the darker side of town
Alone all by myself, no shadow spoken tongues
Faintly familiar ones
And they bled the truth
And they screamed aloud that you
were a liar. Yes a liar.
Well you took advantage of me yet again
Or so they said
And I'd hang the moon for you.
And I'd save the world for you
And tonight and forever
Tonight and tonight and forever.
Well I am just a book
Dusty on this shelf
Worn and by myself
And the words inside don't help.
As I read my midnight pain
Til you put me up again
And the smile across my face is being forged
It's nothing but a fake and it helps me to not think
And I know that you're at home and on your mind
is nothing about my brown hair and hazel eyes.
I'm just trying to pass the time
And the tears all sing aloud, without making a sound
“You're a sucker, such a sucker.”
It seems as if you want what you can't get
And I'm nauseous and I'm sick
And I'll get into your mind so please get out of mine
Tonight and forever
Tonight, oh tonight, tonight and forever
Well I am just a book
I'm dusty on this shelf
I'm worn and by myself
And the words inside don't help
As I read my midnight pain
Til you put me up again
Well I am just a book, dusty on this shelf
I'm worn and by myself
And the words inside don't help
As I read my midnight pain
Til you put me up again
And again, and again, and again, and again....
As I'm right outside your door
And my face is on the floor
And you left me on the darker side of town
Alone all by myself, no shadow spoken tongues
Faintly familiar ones
And they bled the truth
And they screamed aloud that you
were a liar. Yes a liar.
Well you took advantage of me yet again
Or so they said
And I'd hang the moon for you.
And I'd save the world for you

Well I am just a book

As I read my midnight pain
Til you put me up again
It's nothing but a fake and it helps me to not think

This song is amazing, and obviously about getting over someone. Also, having others say the break up was expected, although he knows there was something special there that he wish would've lasted.
"in the night i'm disappointed with your choice, as i'm right outside your door and my face is on the floor": He is dumped, upset, and feels worthless
"and the smile across my face is being forged. its nothing but a fake and it helps me to not think. and I know that you're at home and on your mind is nothing about my brown hair and hazel eyes": He's faking his happiness and knows the girl isn't thinking about him
"it seems as if you want what you can't get, and I'm nauseous and I'm sick" The girl takes him for granted, and he's upset.
kind of self-explanatory and easy to interpret
I really like this song, it sounds more spill canvas than manchester orchestra to me tho...

SOOOOOOOO Beautiful!
TBS reference?
OMG...where has this song been all my life:) GREAT song. Perfect for a night where I chose The Hunger Games series (books) over dancing. Nothin' like a book that ya cannot seem to put down!
I think this song is obviously about a break-up. Like somebody mentioned in a previous comment, people expected them to not last, which is why he sings, "In the night I'm disappointed with your choice As I'm right outside your door And my face is on the floor," showing that he feels as if she chose the opinions of others' over him. "And you left me on the darker side of town Alone all by myself, no shadow spoken tongues Faintly familiar ones And they bled the truth And they screamed aloud that you were a liar. Yes a liar. Well you took advantage of me yet again Or so they said" I think maybe he had to walk through the town from her house or apartment and there were people around, but he was too disoriented, shocked, and upset to see all the details of them and to comprehend what they were saying, and through his mind he's replacing the words they were saying with what was going through his head at the time and what he thought of the woman now. "And I'd hang the moon for you. And I'd save the world for you" Obviously, this means that he'd do anything he could for her even though she no longer wants him, he will still forever love her. Then, he goes into the chorus, "And tonight and forever Tonight and tonight and forever. Well I am just a book Dusty on this shelf Worn and by myself And the words inside don't help. As I read my midnight pain Til you put me up again" This, too, is obvious. He is comparing himself to a beaten up book that nobody truly cares about enough to read, and the thoughts that he's thinking aren't helping him. He's trying to understand the pain he's feeling that he thinks will go away when she starts to use him again. "And the smile across my face is being forged It's nothing but a fake and it helps me to not think And I know that you're at home and on your mind is nothing about my brown hair and hazel eyes. I'm just trying to pass the time" He's going about life faking his happiness, although he cannot stop thinking about how she cares so little about him that she doesn't even think about him, and that's how he gets through the day, by thinking about her, even though they're negative thoughts. "And the tears all sing aloud, without making a sound 'You're a sucker, such a sucker." He knows he's crying and the fact that he's crying shows him that he's a sucker, or a baby, or a loser. "It seems as if you want what you can't get And I'm nauseous and I'm sick And I'll get into your mind so please get out of mine" The woman he's singing about took him for granted and this made him feel upset. He's also asking her to get out of his and, eventually, she'll realize the mistake she made by leaving him and won't stop thinking about it, but it will be too late because he hopes he will be over her by the time she realizes this.
I really like this song, it sounds more spill canvas than manchester orchestra to me tho...
