I look up, it's 10:15,
and what have I achieved?
A dog-end stubbed and an idea scrubbed,
and square one looming dangerously.
I've waited on your favour
for what seems a century,
I've hung round town,
kicked cans around,
This pauper's life is not for me but...

Highness how can you blame me?
When you play me off against your other lovers
Highness how can you blame me?
When you play me off against your other lovers

Life flits past my window
like the shadows 'cross my walls.
Patience stretched,
a hopeless wretch lies waiting on your regal call,
And ever since the day we first crossed paths
I must've crossed my heart
A thousand times along these lines,
yet still I worship from afar, but...

Highness how can you blame me?
When you play me off against your other lovers
Highness how can you blame me?
When you play me off against your other lovers

How can you say "I want you",
How can you say "I need you",
How can you say "I love you",
When Highness, you know it's not true?

How can you say "I want you",
How can you say "I need you",
How can you say "I love you",
When it's not true?

Highness how can you blame me?
When you play me off against your other lovers
Highness how can you blame me?
When you play me off against your other lovers

Highness how can you blame me?
When you play me off against your other lovers
Highness how can you blame me?
When you play me off against your other lovers

How can you say "I love you"

I love this song. I went on this music course where two members of the band were teaching us. It was amazing, and I never forgot them. I was about 12 or something when I met them

Then like 3 years later they popped up on TV!!!

I think much like another song “Anti-Matter” (that's also on the same album as this song), this one is also is inspired by a horrifying van crash the band experienced on Nov 3, 2022. This, much like the other track, sounds like it's an extension what they shared while huddled in the wreckage, as they helped frontman Garrett Russell stem the bleeding from his head wound while he was under the temporary effects of a concussion. The track speaks of where the mind goes at the most desperate & desolate of times, when it just about slips away to all but disconnect itself, and the aftermath.

How would you describe the feeling of being in love? For Ed Sheeran, the word is “Magical.” in HIS three-minute album opener, he makes an attempt to capture the beauty and delicacy of true love with words. He describes the magic of it all over a bright Pop song produced by Aaron Dessner.

Amazing
Ed Sheeran
Ed Sheeran tells a story of unsuccessfully trying to feel “Amazing.” This track is about the being weighed down by emotional stress despite valiant attempts to find some positivity in the situation. This track was written by Ed Sheeran from the perspective of his friend. From the track, we see this person fall deeper into the negative thoughts and slide further down the path of mental torment with every lyric.

Page
Ed Sheeran
There aren’t many things that’ll hurt more than giving love a chance against your better judgement only to have your heart crushed yet again. Ed Sheeran tells such a story on “Page.” On this track, he is devastated to have lost his lover and even more saddened by the feeling that he may never move on from this.
