they say, history will find us on the last train
and we'll make all the same mistakes that they made
and we could never rule tomorrow our way out
love...it's too late now
they say, nothing comes from going against their grain
and oh, we are the diggers of our own graves
and we will crash and burn before our train leaves this town
love...forgive me now

they can burn in hell
they can burn in hell

they say, we will live life dragging on the coattails
holding onto dreams of false fairy tales
and sleeping under bridges where our train breaks down
love...our light will drown

they can burn in hell
they can burn in hell

One of my favorites. Kind of reminds me of Radiohead

God, this song is just mindblowing. I think it might be about two young people who are hopelessly in love to the point where to everyone else they literally do look hopeless. But they don't give a shit because they have each other. I just love this song, it's fantastic.

Firstly, I want to say that Josiah Leming's voice is so amazing it's almost sinful.

and this song is probably my second favorite, if not my favorite. Maybe, because I can kind of relate?

But I find this song to be about these two people who are in love and everyone around them thinks they won't make it in the long run. Basically, the odds are against them. But they KNOW they can make it, and that just because these people speak the words of failure, they're still going to push and make it together.

And I absolutely love how easy he just said "they can burn in hell." It's like he's just looking at those people and saying "I don't give a shit what you say, because we can do this with or without your support." He says something so strong with such an incredible voice and with such ease.

    True talent, I must admit.

    INTERPRETATION

It is a song about rebellion and difference between the older and the younger generation..when he says the first "they" say, he is referring to all the older generation around them (the younger generation..his and his friends) when he says history will find us on the last train, it means when they get to the end of their lives and history looks back on that life, that "they" say that they will make all the same mistakes that those before them did..that it is too late to think things could ever change and going against the status quo is in vain. That our actions will lead us all to the the fruitless end and decline of a world in chaos. that it is too late to change the path we are on according to the older people .that trying to follow our new ways and acting on our divergent hopes and dreams and actions that are different from the previous generation/s and could lead to a different path in the world is in vain and just keep going along the path "they" set,,don't go against the crowd and what we have established as the right way. that it will just lead to failure before we barely have begun. That people are telling them (the next generation) that they will come to the end of their days eventually walking the same old paths and built on the same old ways (dragging on the coattails of those before them following the path set by the older generation ).."they" say people are destined to destroy themselves (world wise). Although dreams of false fairy tales not could be talking about religion..that those before them believed in..or just a status quo type happiness of the tried and true (but boring) path, but it more likely referring to the younger generations false fairy tales and notions of a dream of actually having a world of peace and brotherhood.. "he is saying that "they" say that all their (the younguns) passions and things will burn out and they will just wind up like everyone else and their noble dreams and light will drown when they get older and the passion and hopes of youth are squashed and he is saying a loud FU to all this he is being told by saying you can all go to hell cause I am not believing this and never will.

they say, nothing comes from going against their grain and oh, we are the diggers of our own graves and we will crash and burn before our train leaves this town

this could mean to that no use trying to do things differently from those before them cause you are just killing yourself for nothing (figuratively) and your dreams of a better tomorrow or the world will all come crashing down on you before you barely began your life's journey

he could also be referring in the whole song to something more simple..his desires to leave his town and follow his dreams instead of the status quo life those around him (parents/grandparents) want him to have instead (school/job/marriage/grow old) and him saying I am not doing it your way.

Oh, one more thing: iamthenightstars -- would you mind changing the title to "Theysay", all one word? That's how it is on Josiah's MySpace, and I like it like that.

Idk, just to humor me. ;]

Do you guys think that the new EP version lyrics should be posted as a separate song or should these be edited and changed to those?

calendar girl -- I like your interpretation. Even though it's kindof long, I get what you're saying. I think especially the political side of it rings a bell with me. Even though I'm not political, I understand people's political views better than I do other things.

Alright, so this is coming out really awkward, and idk why. I'll try to catch my breath, and let you guys understand me.

Okay: Maybe the song is talking about all the ideas and innovations that this generation is bringing. Like, from the point of view of an older generation, being the "they", like calendar girl said. The adults of today are so wrapped up in saving the world, and "they" are saying that it'll all be for nothing, and it won't help. That all these dreams are "false fairytales". But the narrator is saying that they can burn in hell, and who cares what they say, and he is determined to keep dreaming.

The train could be the younger generation's innovations, and path to making the world better. So, in that sense: "And we will crash and burn before our train leaves this town" could be that "they" think that it won't work. This line is expressing that the ideas and path to a perfect world won't even get started. The train is a metaphor for this path, and if it doesn't even leave the town before they crash and burn, then it's saying that the younger generation will try so hard, but fail before it even gets better.

Also, "And sleeping under bridges where our train breaks down" could mean that if the path does start, it will eventually fail. Before the train can get to its destination, it will break down, the younger generation being left so poor from this that they sleep under bridges. This might mean that this generation will spend so much time and money concentrated on improving the world, that when their plans fail, we will all be left in ruins, worse off than we were when we started.

This song really expresses the ego and hope of the modern generation. They think that they can fix everything, but they can't. It's all false hope.

This is what the older generation, or "they", are saying, but the narrator thinks that they're wrong.

However, the only part that does not fit in perfectly is the three times he says "Love,..." and etc. In the first two times, it seems almost like he's realizing that the older generation is right, and apologizing for having so much hope. But in the last time, depending on what the "light" is, the meaning seems to be different. I take it two ways: 1) Our light will "flood", in a good way, like inspire and enlighten everyone. This would be the positive meaning of "drown".The light being hope and inspiration. 2) Our light will "kill", in a bad way. This would be the negative meaning of "drown", in the killing everyone sense. This might fit with my ideas for the other 2 lines, since it's saying that our hope will doom everyone.

Depending on which meaning of "drown" it is, the meaning of the chorus ("They can burn in hell") changes: If it is the positive meaning -- "They can burn in hell" would have the normal meaning that you'd think of. It would be saying, "forget them", like they don't matter and who cares. If it is the negative meaning -- "They can burn in hell" might mean the same thing, but instead of saying it because "they" are wrong, it would be because they're right, and "damnit, they're right!". More like a bitter emotion, and shameful.

The more I type, the more questions I have! I think I'm done, though, for now. (And I thought yours was long, calendar girl!!! lol.)

But yay! I finally somewhat-understand this song!

I've been wanting to a material meaning for it (meaning something besides just emotions, but something I can express in words) ever since I heard it, since it's so beautiful.

I'm so glad that it's not only beautiful, but meaningful.

    Peace! happy dance

Hayalperest
This song seemingly tackles the methods of deception those who manipulate others use to get victims to follow their demands, as well as diverting attention away from important issues. They'll also use it as a means to convince people to hate or kill others by pretending acts of terrorism were committed by the enemy when the acts themselves were done by the masters of control to promote discrimination and hate. It also reinforces the idea that these manipulative forces operate in various locations, infiltrating everyday life without detection, and propagate any and everywhere. In general, it highlights the danger of hidden agendas, manipulation, and distraction, serving as a critique of those who exploit chaos and confusion to control and gain power, depicting a cautionary tale against falling into their traps. It encourages us to question the narratives presented to us and remain vigilant against manipulation in various parts of society.

Mountain Song
Jane's Addiction
Jane's Addiction vocalist Perry Farrell gives Adam Reader some heartfelt insight into Jane’s Addiction's hard rock manifesto "Mountain Song", which was the second single from their revolutionary album Nothing's Shocking. Mountain song was first recorded in 1986 and appeared on the soundtrack to the film Dudes starring Jon Cryer. The version on Nothing's Shocking was re-recorded in 1988. "'Mountain Song' was actually about... I hate to say it but... drugs. Climbing this mountain and getting as high as you can, and then coming down that mountain," reveals Farrell. "What it feels to descend from the mountain top... not easy at all. The ascension is tough but exhilarating. Getting down is... it's a real bummer. Drugs is not for everybody obviously. For me, I wanted to experience the heights, and the lows come along with it." "There's a part - 'Cash in now honey, cash in Miss Smith.' Miss Smith is my Mother; our last name was Smith. Cashing in when she cashed in her life. So... she decided that, to her... at that time, she was desperate. Life wasn't worth it for her, that was her opinion. Some people think, never take your life, and some people find that their life isn't worth living. She was in love with my Dad, and my Dad was not faithful to her, and it broke her heart. She was very desperate and she did something that I know she regrets."

There aren’t many things that’ll hurt more than giving love a chance against your better judgement only to have your heart crushed yet again. Ed Sheeran tells such a story on “Page.” On this track, he is devastated to have lost his lover and even more saddened by the feeling that he may never move on from this.

Plastic Bag
Ed Sheeran
“Plastic Bag” is a song about searching for an escape from personal problems and hoping to find it in the lively atmosphere of a Saturday night party. Ed Sheeran tells the story of his friend and the myriad of troubles he is going through. Unable to find any solutions, this friend seeks a last resort in a party and the vanity that comes with it. “I overthink and have trouble sleepin’ / All purpose gone and don’t have a reason / And there’s no doctor to stop this bleedin’ / So I left home and jumped in the deep end,” Ed Sheeran sings in verse one. He continues by adding that this person is feeling the weight of having disappointed his father and doesn’t have any friends to rely on in this difficult moment. In the second verse, Ed sings about the role of grief in his friend’s plight and his dwindling faith in prayer. “Saturday night is givin’ me a reason to rely on the strobe lights / The lifeline of a promise in a shot glass, and I’ll take that / If you’re givin’ out love from a plastic bag,” Ed sings on the chorus, as his friend turns to new vices in hopes of feeling better.
