Maybe they're talking about the whole 80's electro look coming back, and everyone has the same style as them now...
I think they're talking about a period in their development where they were copying one another, sounds like it especially from this verse:

Also the way they interact when they sing the song live- pointing at one another, pushing each other, Dee often answering to the question "Was your hair cut by the council?"- personally I think all the copying was going on in the band, but is obviously not an issue any more since they've written a song about it together!
Definitely agree with Heart Prisim, here's a link to them performing live (this is the third or fourth song I think, can't remember which) and it's obviously between them... makes sense, they obviously write about internal band conflicts i.e. Argument etc.
