Funplex Lyrics
I'm a pleasure seeker
Shoppin' for a new distraction
I'm a pleasure seeker
Lookin' for some platinum action
I'm a pleasure seeker
Movin' to the muzak
I'm a pleasure seeker
Lookin' for the real thing
Chandalabra's in a wonder bra
Dress barn runway-a real draw
Faster Pussycat thrill thrill
I'm at the mall on a diet pill
Oh broke my heart
At the Funplex
Yes you did
Yes you did
(repeat)
The Taco Tiki Hut is where we're all gonna meet
Underneath the chandelier at the ATM machine
Oh Honey -
Is it all about money?
Hey lady
What?
What lady?
That lady?
No!
Private property-hippie be quiet
Your peace sign t-shirt
Could cause a riot
Faster faster-can't get enough
What the hell will I do with this stuff ?
I'm your daytime waitress
at the Taco Tiki Hut
I'm your daytime waitress
Here's your stupid 7-Up
You kicked my heart
Goin' up and down the escalator
You blew me off and
And now you've lost
The real thing
Oooh -broke my heart at the Funplex
Yes you did -yes you did
Oooh -broke my heart at the Funplex
Yes you did -yes you did
You know-fashion frenzy gets me higher and higher
No will power and my wallet’s on fire!
(Panic at the Funplex-Panic at the Funplex)
Oooh -broke my heart
Oooh -broke my heart
Panic at the Funplex
Faster faster thrill thrill
Too much to do
It's time for a pill
Oooh -broke my heart
Panic at the Funplex
Misery at the Funplex!
And there’s too much sex!
The world is goin' to hell
And what is that horrible smell?
Shoppin' for a new distraction
I'm a pleasure seeker
Lookin' for some platinum action
I'm a pleasure seeker
Movin' to the muzak

this song is a riot. i hope the rest on the album are as good as this.
biblo, that's only part of the story! I think the B-52s are acting out different characters you might see in the mall, like crazed shoppers ("my wallet's on fire", "i'm a pleasure seeker"), crotchety old people ("the world's going to hell"), grumpy/rude waitresses ("here's your stupid 7-up"), and.....security personnel? i don't know what the whole "private property! hippie, be quiet!" thing was about. anyway. that's my take.
the line "Private property-hippie be quiet Your peace sign t-shirt Could cause a riot" Apparently(according to wikipedia) refers to a incident at a mall in New York where a guy was arrested after he refused to either leave the mall or take off his t-shirt with "peace on earth" as a slogan, I guess it caused a huge protest.

I think the song sooo accurately captures a lot of what American society is about today.

enny_buddy nailed it. It's like scenes from a mall.
Song's very catchy, but then, most B-52's songs are!
This song is so absolutely catchy, I love it! But what EXACTLY is it about?
It's about hanging out at a mall.
It's about hanging out at a mall.
This song is about how the B52s have suddenly become elderly and have taken to ranting about damn kids and their sex and malls and the like
You know, if you watch the music video, they kinda resemble the four horsemen of the Apocalypse. I kinda find it scary the fact that the B-52's are back. So close to 2012, I don't wanna take any chances.
"That horrible smell" is supposed to be a grease fire in the mall's food court, as seen in the video. But it could also represent the stenches which are supposed to be characteristic of hell.
Cindy sometimes varies her lyrics slightly live. ;-)
Really, what I think they're doing is comparing their careers to the fate of shopping malls. When the B-52's were very popular in the late 1980's and early 1990's, the place to be was the shopping mall. In 2010, the shopping mall was a relic of nostalgia and not what it used to be. They feel they have more to contribute in life but feel that people are labeling them as passé, much like the shopping mall.
