My Own Enemy Lyrics

Hold up oh no
Who let them in the door
It's like a freak show
Shake it like a photo

Hate is only what you say
Not what you mean and
Pain is what's inside of me
Not when you're bleeding
I will fall, I'll fall
and take your breath away
We could change it all
And take your breath away

This anger changes me
It affects the way I see
Affects every part of me
and makes you my enemy
But when it falls apart
It's like a brand new start
And I can't remember why
I ripped everything apart

I'm still my worst enemy
The world around me all can see what they wanna see
I need some help because
I'm still my worst enemy
No matter where I am
I still get the best of me
I'm my own enemy

(Hold up oh no, who let them in the door)
Shake the world inside of me
Until it can't be shaken
Wake the words inside of me
Before it's all too late and
I will fall, I'll fall
And take your breath away
We could change it all
And take your breath away

This anger changes me
It affects the way I see
Affects every part of me
and makes you my enemy
But when it falls apart
It's like a brand new start
And I can't remember why
I ripped everything apart

I'm still my worst enemy
The world around me all can see what they wanna see
I need some help because
I'm still my worst enemy
No matter where I am
I still get the best of me
I'm my own enemy

My own enemy, my own enemy

TFK being a christian band brings me to the thought that this song is kind of about how someone has turned away from God, become their worst enemy by hating what they're now doing and taking the road of temptation etc; which isn't very christ-like. More like being the complete opposite to what they actually used to be, not knowing why they turned down that wrong path. That's all I have in mind for now. :]

Okay, but I don't agree with any of you, because I think this song kinda has to do with what I do sometimes. When he says,

"This anger changes me It affects the way I see Affects every part of me and makes you my enemy But when it falls apart It's like a brand new start And I can't remember why I ripped everything apart"

The rage you feel builds and blinds you, or makes you see things differently than if you were calm. You have to fight back the anger inside yourself, like an enemy. When you're calm and everything, it's like pressing a restart button and you feel find. You think back to it, think it was all stupid, and wonder why you even did all the stuff you did before.

Agreed with the first poster. I'm pretty positive this song is about causing problems for yourself, like not taking a step back and trying to think reasonably and rationally. But that's just my opinion.

In my opinion i think this song is about someone who makes things worse for themselves , about someone who scews up alot, but brings it upon themselves.

I was thinking about the meaning of "shake it like a photo" line. I'm not English native speaker, but I searched the net and find out that years ago people shook the photos they've just taken to make 'em clear. Today it is also connected with a song from the band called Outcast or Outkast, not sure, and it may mean "celebrating", "freakin' out" or, you know, it may also mean "trying to hook up someone", "dancing something like dancehall" or even "playing with yourself". These are the meanings I found on the net.

But I think they don't make sense here. So that's mine interpretation.

People shook the photos originally to make them develop faster, to make them clear. And the guy from the song says "oh no, who let them in the door? it's like a freak show". Maybe he means "man, I hate the thoughts/feelings that have come to me, they're so odd, how could I let them come?!". Then he says "shake it like a photo", means "make it clearer" or "shake it off", "let this go". I think it'd finally make sense.
