first of all, the version of this song i have says, "i fell asleep last night, but i woke up too late." i think that's what it is, but maybe the one you got these off of is a bit different.
i think this could be about a guy who is falling for a girl, but is ending a relationship, saying that it's his fault and she should just forget about him. perhaps he's scared that he feels so strongly about her, and he's trying to make it out to be nothing, and he's leaving before he can get too involved and get hurt or maybe hurt her.
he's telling her to forget him, and move on, because obviously he's not worth her time since he's too much of a coward to step up.
it could be one of those things where he realizes what a jerk he's being by sending her mixed signals, because he wants her, but then he doesn't, so he's telling her to just forget about him, and that he's going to leave.

This song hit me as leaving my dog behind dying of cancer because of family drama. I was told I was selfish, inconsiderate and mean despite planning for him to come with me...but the day I left I set off WW3". But, I didn't speak up and my "big move" was ruined from the start
Wow. I really like this song. I think its about a guy who knows hes leaving soon and acts like its not going to bother him when he leaves her. But thats my opinion.
The guy could be on tour or something..you know...always leaving for long periods of time and the girl is stuck at home. He loves her, feels terrible for leaving her for so long.
I think he just doesnt understand his feelings and feels like he cant be in a relationship with someone, like he just cant figure out how to get to know someone because he cant learn to love.

I love this song so much. i don't know why, but the lyrics remind me of the book New Moon by stephenie myer. if anyone read that book, maybe you agree. LOL.(:
to me it means that there's a guy who loves a girl, but too much and he doesn't want to hurt her. He wants her to forget about him so she can move on.

I definitely agree with XxNotsoPunkRawkerxX, because of "Please just forget me when I'm all alone on the east coast" I think it's about a guy, maybe John Oh, maybe not, saying that he does want to be with the girl, but he cares too much about her so he CAN'T be with her because he doesn't want to hurt her. He's saying his tour schedule is crazy so he won't be able to keep up with the relationship he's in, so she should just forget him, and not forgive him because he's across the country playing a show while she's at home all alone missing/needing him, and he can't be there for her. And I think he's also saying the way he explained it to the girl was rude, or upsetting because of this part of the song: "If I could gather up the nerve, I’d put my feelings into words, And if I weren’t so young, or stupid, or restless, I might be able to just soon forget this." So he's hoping they'll just both move on, although I think he still has feelings for her and it'll be hard for both of them.

aha i agree that it sounds like New Moon. lol. anyways, i LOVE this song. its one of my favorite songs by them. i also kinda agree that its about him being on tour and whatnot and he wants to break up with the girl because he feels bad that he's always gone but he doesnt want to hurt her so he doesnt have the heart to do it.
