first of all, the version of this song i have says, "i fell asleep last night, but i woke up too late." i think that's what it is, but maybe the one you got these off of is a bit different.
i think this could be about a guy who is falling for a girl, but is ending a relationship, saying that it's his fault and she should just forget about him. perhaps he's scared that he feels so strongly about her, and he's trying to make it out to be nothing, and he's leaving before he can get too involved and get hurt or maybe hurt her.
he's telling her to forget him, and move on, because obviously he's not worth her time since he's too much of a coward to step up.
it could be one of those things where he realizes what a jerk he's being by sending her mixed signals, because he wants her, but then he doesn't, so he's telling her to just forget about him, and that he's going to leave.
