Idiot Heart Lyrics
Stay away from open windows, and put the telephone down.
Can you run as fast as this house will fall, when the alarm bell sounds?
No, I was never much of a dancer but I know enough to know you gotta move your idiot body around.
And you can't, can't settle down until the idiot in your blood settles down.
So move around, oh move around, oh move around, oh move around, oh move around, oh move around.
And if I found you in this city, I'd call it Paradise.
I say, I love you but I hate this city, and I'm no prize.
You want to walk around like you own the joint, the way that Icarus thought he might own the sky.
I said you can't, can't settle down, until the Icarus in your blood, in your blood drowns
No you can't, can't settle down, until the Icarus in your blood, in your blood drowns
I said, If I was a horse I would throw up the reins if I was you.
Wa-a-a-a-a-a-a-oh
So, look at you go!
(you were a sorcerer)
Oh, look at you go!
(you were a meteor)
Oh, look at you go!
Oh, look at you go!
(you were a sorcerer)
Oh, look at you go!
(you were a meteor)
Oh, look at you go!
Oh, look at you go!
(you were a sorcerer)
Oh, look at you go!
(you were a meteor)
Oh, look at you go-o-o-o!
Oh, look at you go!
(you were a sorcerer,
you were a meteor)
and, look at you go!
And you know your heart, and you know your heart, and you know your heart,
And you know your heart, and you know your heart, and you know your heart,
And you know your heart, and you know your heart, and you know your heart
And you know your heart, and you know your heart, and you know your heart
Well it's an idiot heart.
And you know your heart, and you know your heart, and you know your heart
And you know your heart, and you know your heart, and you know your heart
And you know your heart.
But you can't, can't settle down, down, down Ba-da-da-da-da-ba-da-da-ba-ba
But you can't, can t settle down, down, down Ba-da-da-da-da-da-da-da-da-da
So just move around, move around, move around, move around. (I hope that you die)
Move around. (in a decent pair of shoes) Move around. (you got a lot long walking to do) Move around. (where you're going to) Move around.
I hope that you die in a decent pair of shoes
You got a lot long walking to do where you re going to.

To me, this song is about someone who loves someone who doesn't have time for them and is caught up in being in the limelight. They think of themself as on a higher level and their self importance is leading them to everything falling down around them. The person who loves them thinks that they have potential but their unwillingness to be grounded and unselfish is going to cause their downfall. It is an unrequited love and the narrator has accepted it, especially accepting that overall this person is not a very nice one.
The way that it is sung with such a long pause between "I hope that you die........." "in a decent pair of shoes" suggests that the narrator is slightly bitter. I really do love that line though......I hope that you die in a decent pair of shoes, you've gotta a lot a lot of walking to do, where you're headed to. I think it means that this person is going to have to pay for the way that they go through life only thinking of themselves and hurting people along the way without a second thought.
It's about wanting to fuck a lot of chicks.
This song is about someone who loves another person, but they're rooted, per se, to deep in their place; Their shitty home town is their palace, and they've already reached their peak. It's about letting go, letting that feeling of ownership die... er drown. To stop getting so damn caught up in the stream of things and be free.
I never "got" Sunset Rubdown at all until I heard this song. AWESOME. So much of it is made up of escape imagery and the necessity of movement; "if I was a horse, I'd throw up the reins", "you gotta move," "you can't settle down," but it also acknowledges that just because something's necessary doesn't make it smart. Run for long enough, and you'll run yourself right into the ground. It seems affectionate to me, but brutally honest.
Both 'The Men Are Called Horsemen There' and 'Q-chord' in this song.
i enjoy the drumming's cut crescendos interspersed throughout this song. very ear-filling.
i'm pretty sure it says we're going too instead of . that would make a lot more sense to the themes in the songs. I love the whole concept of dance releasing all of this uncontrolled movement that somehow defines who you are. unprofessional dancers cannot control how they dance. I just heard this song today and I'm so anxious for their new album because all their other work is astonishing.
"You were a sorcerer" = "Into the fire-star" (check the lyrics on sunsetrubdown.net)
lol at above comment... All i have to say about this song is during the "you know your heart" section, when the QChord kicks in. Love it. It's not a Sunset Rubdown song without that QChord!
God, these songs are so intense and legitemately powerful and awesome. I love the way that Sunset Rubdown always incorporates mythology into their songs...its just something that most bands wouldnt even dare do, yet they pull it off with such ease. This new cd was great...and i hope more people can hear it and listen to the beauty of the way that it flows together
