In regards to the meaning of this song:
Before a live performance on the EP Five Stories Falling, Geoff states “It’s about the last time I went to visit my grandmother in Columbus, and I saw that she was dying and it was the last time I was going to see her. It is about realizing how young you are, but how quickly you can go.”
That’s the thing about Geoff and his sublime poetry, you think it’s about one thing, but really it’s about something entirely different. But the lyrics are still universal and omnipresent, ubiquitous, even. So relatable. That’s one thing I love about this band. I also love their live performances, raw energy and Geoff’s beautiful, imperfectly perfect vocals. His voice soothes my aching soul.
All along the Western front
People line up to receive
She got the power in her hand
To shock you like you won't believe
Saw her in the Amazon
With the voltage running through her skin
Standing there with nothing on
She gonna teach me how to swim
I said, "ooh, girl
Shock me like an electric eel
Baby girl
Turn me on with your electric feel"
I said, "ooh girl
Shock me like an electric eel
Baby girl
Turn me on with your electric feel"
All along the Eastern shore
Put your circuits in the sea
This is what the world is for
Making electricity
You can feel it in your mind
Oh, you can do it all the time
Plug it in, change the world
You are my electric girl
I said, "ooh, girl
Shock me like an electric eel
Baby girl
Turn me on with your electric feel"
I said, "ooh girl
Shock me like an electric eel
Baby girl
Turn me on with your electric feel"
Do what you feel now
Electric feel now
Do what you feel now
Electric feel now
Do what you feel now
Electric feel now
Do what you feel now
Electric feel now
Do what you feel now
Electric feel now

I think much like another song “Anti-Matter” (that's also on the same album as this song), this one is also is inspired by a horrifying van crash the band experienced on Nov 3, 2022. This, much like the other track, sounds like it's an extension what they shared while huddled in the wreckage, as they helped frontman Garrett Russell stem the bleeding from his head wound while he was under the temporary effects of a concussion. The track speaks of where the mind goes at the most desperate & desolate of times, when it just about slips away to all but disconnect itself, and the aftermath.
Punchline
Ed Sheeran
Ed Sheeran
Ed Sheeran sings about missing his former partner and learning important life lessons in the process on “Punchline.” This track tells a story of battling to get rid of emotions for a former lover, whom he now realized might not have loved him the same way. He’s now caught between accepting that fact and learning life lessons from it and going back to beg her for another chance.
Amazing
Ed Sheeran
Ed Sheeran
Ed Sheeran tells a story of unsuccessfully trying to feel “Amazing.” This track is about the being weighed down by emotional stress despite valiant attempts to find some positivity in the situation. This track was written by Ed Sheeran from the perspective of his friend. From the track, we see this person fall deeper into the negative thoughts and slide further down the path of mental torment with every lyric.
Its sexual energy, making love, orgasmic pleasure
"This is what the world is for, making electricity" Happiness, joy, and sex.. of course! Thats our purpose, to further the advancement of our species, to reproduce. I love this song!
Wow, Thats a very intelligent guess. But I am afraid you are incorrect. The song Electric Feel by MGMT is about the use of psychedelic drugs in order to change the world (DMT or Diemethyltriptimine in particular) Due to cultural values playing a large role in our lives and even brainwashing us, we often miss the point about a lot of things. When you take entheogens you shed this cultural operating system and see things from a new borns perspective the way we are supposed to see it. "Saw her in the amazon with the voltage running through her skin" refers to an ayahausca tree which contains DMT. "she got the power in her hands and she's gonna teach me how to swim means that this plant basically teaches you everything about your life and this very complex universe... Thus unraveling the true mechanism of existence. Look DMT up on youtube listen to terence mckenna speak about it :)
