Seems like a song about a girl who is very jaded emotionally toward relationships/dating being pursued by someone incredibly desperate for real affection. He's trying to "spend the night" because he knows her reputation for being easy physically, shes denying him because she knows his reputation for being "easy" emotionally.

i read in an interview what this song is about:

“Hurricane Jane” is a song that took a couple of years to become what it is now. I often try to develop little stories for each song. I had this idea of these upper-class kids that would go to the ghetto and treat it as their playground. You know, fuck shit up without consequence. You know, not worrying about consequences but relying on their money to get them out of whatever. I’m not sure where I got this idea from. Maybe it was just from going out and seeing kids like this in areas where they don’t belong. They feel like they own everything. It went from that, this club culture type thing and I personalized it more by boiling down to a guy and a girl and taking all the social shit out of it. It took forever because it evolved from one thing into a pop song about a guy and a girl.

so from that, im thinking jane is maybe a popular girl or something and she goes around treating guys the way she wants, not really caring if they get hurt. but then there's this guy (reggie, i guess) that thinks even though she goes around and does this stuff, he should still give her a chance cause "he thinks it's gonna be worth it".

-not every song with the name "jane" in it is about drugs guys.

It does seem to have a fair few references to cannabis: "although I'm faded as a ghost:I want you here inside me." "You head-butt me" "I took something and it feels like karate;it's kicked me down and left me for dead." "I put what I want, when I want, in my body.I'm never gonna give what I take." "Jane, I've seen the pain you've dealt.You've been with all my friends." (past bad experiences of freinds maybe)

But I think it's just another love song, it's great. It sums up my alot of my recent times unfortunatley :/

It's about what happens when the 'popular' girl takes an interest in the indie-nerd? He knows he has a weakness for her, but no good will come out of it. Still, he's right; it's worth it, or at least you tell yourself that.

It sounds a little bit to me like they might be talking about marijuana, (sometimes called mary jane) Just the way it says "I want you here inside me" and "I took something and it feels like karate; it's kicked me down and left me for dead" I dont know, it may be a bit of a random shot in the dark though haha.

I agree with hi tomorrow: I listened at first but couldn't understand and thought, 'aaw, a sweet love song'. But reading the lyrics, it seems pretty obvious that there is at least some reference to drugs. I didn't know weed is sometimes called 'ary jane', but that adds to it. I do think it's about a girl too, but maybe she keeps knocking him nack because he's too mixed up with the drugs. Maybe he's known as a bit of a ladie's man, too, "Christ. He's everybody's girl." and she knows 'his type'. After all, he only wants to 'spend the night with her', believing that Friday night is pointless if he 'hasn't got nobody'.

I really think this song is about weed.

"What's the point in making a bed?" is definitely something a pot fiend would say anyway.

I think the "what's the use of pulling a shape" is actually "what's the use in pulling a shade" like curtains

This definitely has the theme of somebody going out and not having company to go back with (ie what's the point in making a bed). He wonders what's the point in pulling a shape (AKA dancing) when it won't get him anywhere. He thinks he might have a chance with jane because she's "been with all my friends" but she's not interested in just a one nighter so she refuses. The drug referance is probably down to some bad ecstacy or pill rather than weed (who goes to a club and gets high??)
