I think this song is about a guy who has really low self esteem, so he has to keep in a relationship. When one ends, he starts another instantly, hence the love anxiety. He hates himself so he needs gratification from girls and his problem in the song is that he likes a girl, but he knows he's making her into something she's not so that he doesn't have to be alone around himself.
This song is overly relevant to me and I think a lot of people who are relationship addicts. When you can't stand yourself you need someone else to like you to keep you alive and happy.

i really really really love this song. the first verse especially. and the chorus. and the bit about floodlighting up the match. :)
i reckon it's about this guy who's really upbeat and fun and is very sociable. but he loves this girl. and he just wants his friends to stay around so he can forget about her and carry on being the fun guy that he is. He knows that as soon as they leave, he's got no distractions, and he'll start thinking about her. He doesn't want to think about her, cos he doesn't know what she thinks of him (hence the 'love anxiety')
